The slide down of the Canon EOS 5D Mark III pricing has begun. B&H Photo currently has the 5D Mark III body only listed at $3349 and the kit with the 24-105 f/4L IS at $4149. That’s a drop of $150 on both ways to buy the 5D3.

Same here, since the improved AF is the only real point of interest.

I think I'll hang on to my 5D2 until the 5D3 drops below 2900. Or maybe until the 5D4 shows up. lol.

Waiting for the announcement of the new FF, if it's not what I want, and the 5D3 is down to $3000, I'm biting.  I don't think we will see a $3000 5D3 price for a long time but I think there is a good chance we will see a Christmastime rebate around $3000--that will work for me.

I hope Canon learned their lesson, you can not count on glory of the past, both 5D and 5D MK-II were continous break through but 5D III did not continue the expected tradition of big breakthrough, despite the fact it is a very good general purpose camera, in addition they raised price too high adding insult to injury. I believe the price drop is reflection of buyers power. we are hoping the new camera will at minimum keep or improve good features of 5D MK III and fill in the deficiencies, of better dynamic range, more pixels to meet the need to landscape and studio photographers, uncompressed HDMI output and may be 16 bit color depth, who knows.

Crap...I got mine barely over a week ago from BH...Am I basically effed? Is it worth trying to return and buy again or would they catch on to that?

Worth calling and asking for a price adjustment.  Since you're within the return period (or maybe not, they do specific a 200 shutter count max), you could go the return-rebuy route.  Most vendors understand that, and will just give you a one-time price adjustment (i.e. refund the difference between what you paid and the new, lower price).

This price slide only makes sense. I guess they figured that the first wave of buyers who are ready to pay whatever for the "latest and greatest" is now depleting, the 800 is getting more in stock and its bugs are being taken care of, so its time to move on with getting the price down to the actual market value.

Canon could make a bigger splash in consumer world with original MSRP of MKIII under $3K, with MKII as an entry level body for another year and with $3800 high megapix model. Instead they decided to milk a certain consumer group and only after that to adjust the price. Disgusting but quite predictable corporate practice.

Personally, I'm waiting for the 800 price slide.  Just a thought of having a 36MP body with high DR for studio work for around $2700 makes me hyper.

Some people are selling new 5D3 on craigslist in bay area about 3K.  It looks like a deal for me.  Does anyone has experiences buying camera from craigslist?  Any concern and Canon warranty issue?
