Just bought the shorty 40mm...
« on: August 19, 2012, 10:23:47 AM »
Headed to England next week on a 2 week trip... I thought this lens would come in handy on my old XSi for my wife to use.  Should basically turn it into a "P&S" that she can walk around with easily.  I'll probably stick it on my 7D every now and again too when I don't want to pack much gear for an outing...

Has anyone used this on an XSi?  Any pictures of it on an XSi?

When it comes in I'll definitely post a few ;-)

No pics, but I tried it today. Great little lens.
Very similar to the 50 1.8 apart from being quieter and has less aberration.
And it's 1/3 of the size  ;D

I'm thinking it could be an expensive body cap for travel....

It is a very nice lens... I bought one and its light, sharp and quite fun. I think the novelty is wearing off though as I might sell it shortly with my 2x III to fund a different lens I would use more. If I need 40mm I tend to chose my 24-105 instead due to IS.

Yes I got one too for what was probably novelty value. After a busy couple of weeks with it, it's gathering cobwebs on the shelf. As mdm041 mentioned, it's a mighty expensive body-cap.

After doing side by side tests against the Sigma 50 f/1.4 and the 24-105 at comparable focal lengths, the novelty value quickly faded. I guess I'll give it to my daughter to help make her old 30D more school bag sized...

I'm sure your wife will be quite happy with he small size and the light weight especially when traveling. Do share some some pics when you are back.

Cheers

It's a great little head and shoulders portrait lens on a crop. It really shines on my film bodies however and I love using it as a cap.
