CORRUPTED! Firmware Version 1.2.0 for EF 40mm pancake

My camera crashed and I had to reboot with another lens.
This firmware may be corrupted.
Beware!!!!

UPDATE: my lens is gone. It no longer works. It needs the firmware. I am very upset!!!

"Delete all the battery registered info first before updating. I did that and it now works."

Which camera are you using?  The firmware is only for T4i, 5D MK III, and 1D X.

Update failed at 62%.  40mm is now a very little, very light paperweight.  CPS says to send it in.  Dang.  I like this little lens!

Which camera are you using?  The firmware is only for T4i, 5D MK III, and 1D X.

If it is the wrong camera, you should not see a lens firmware upload option. Unless Cannon did it all wrong.

I use this site almost everyday and find it very useful, especially the announcements and links on firmware updates. I registered so I can report that it was very easy to update the 40mm lens on my 5DMK3, and lens and camera are working just fine.

All I did was verify the firmware version of my camera, copied the firmware file to an SD card (formatted in the camera) and followed the rest of the instructions.

BTW, many thanks to the posters here who provide many informative posts and great advice.

This may be a key piece of information here. Have others that have had this issue used the SD card or the CF card?
For those that were able to do the upgrade what did you use?

I just did the update on 5D3 from CF card - all worked fine.

Formatted CF (16gb) in camera
Copied firmware (osx 10.7) via USB card reader
Removed SD card (just in case) from body
Installed firmware per instructions from CF
Removed/reinsert battery

All works well.  Haven't been able to replicate the issue with the lens (although it was rather intermittent before).

I too have had a bricked lens because of this firmware update.

Many people has had the same problem. Look at POTN. It could be related to the lens. My lens had the issue reported and it was annoying. May be your lens was not affected in the first place. It is not impossible that the upgrade only works with lenses that do not need it. Hey, this is Canon, after all.

That may be, but I've seen posts from people who tried to apply the update to a 5D MK II and other cameras.
There is a link to the update on many sites, and people follow the link, download, and then there is a problem.

At first, the lens upgrade would not work for me either. Then I read here about UN-registering the battery(s), and the upgrade loaded successfully.

First, be sure the lens is on the camera, and following the printed instructions, make sure the dial is set to P or any MODE except AUTO.

Be sure to RE-register the batteries after pressing SET to complete the upgrade, then remove and reset the batteries, then RE-register the batteries.

I updated yesterday and it worked fine.
Downloaded file.
Saved to root folder of SD card.
Inserted SD card into 5dIII.
Set to P Mode.
Turned on camera and selected the upgrade option.
Finished to 100% and sensor cleaned.
Turned off camera, removed battery for atleast 2 seconds.
Put battery in and turned on camera.

Do Not press any buttons while it's updating. Update takes effect after battery removal.
