This is good news ... I wish they will start production asap ... Canon can count me in as their customer for the EF 28-300 ... it will be incredibly convenient during vacations.

Not if it's the L-version...

For me it doesn't matter if it is L or non-L ... it should not be the same weight as the current version .... if the new 28-300 (even it is an L version) is the same weight as 70-300L than it would be PERFECT.

There's a non-L 28-300mm from Canon?  I haven't seen one...  You may be thinking of the old 28-200mm.

FWIW, I use my 28-300L for travel, and it is very convenient.  Is it big and heavy?  Yes.  But it's no heavier than the two-lens setup it replaces (24-105 + 70-300L), and means no lens changes required.

the 28-135 will finally be replaced ( maybe). I used that lens many years ago......  :D

For many years, the 28-135mm was the kit lens for the lower end of the lineup, film cameras, that is.  Seems like a refreshed 28-135mm would be a good kit lens for an entry-level FF dSLR...

Actually, the 28-135 IS was introduced with the much-adored EOS 3, and was considered a premium (though non-L) optic for a long time before it became the big-box store kit lens with the x0D series.

The 28-135mm is overdue for an update. Perhaps a new Kit lens for the Budget FF body to come? 8)

Is anybody else afraid of what the new 28-135 is going to cost with that parts list?  I'm thinking that can't possibly be the new kit lens, too expensive.

Not really coz I would never buy such a relatively limited zoom range (28-135) with variable aperture ... besides I like my 24-105 f/4 L IS way too much to go the 28-135 way. But EF 28-300 would be incredibly convenient even it is a variable aperture zoom lens ... I would like it even more if it was an L lens but with the same size and weight of 70-300L ... all wishful thinking at this moment  ;D

Hopefully if there is an increase in price then there is at least a commensurate increase in IQ.
