No big expert here, and for this pic it really isn't needed. When you cheat! :) Viveza2 in CS5 makes it really easy. Contrast boost 22%, Structure about 20%, Brightness 3%, Shadows a minus 7% then I used smart sharpen at 62% with a 1 px radius, masked the eagles out and used Imagenomic to take some noise out of the cropped image...mainly to soften the edges of all the leaves without dulling the details of the eagles. Voila! About 2 minutes.

I'm especially digging fump's earthy colors and instense depth of field.

Here's another treatment. I added some fake DOF.

Here is my quick five minute edit.  But I couldn't get the raw file so this probably isn't very helpful.  But I'll save the PSD file just in case.

I gave it a try, not sure if it works or not, but constructive crits are always helpful!

Little bit of this, little bit of that. (LR3) Added clarity to the birds, lowered clarity on the leaves, slight vignette, warmed up the greens. Added contrast.

Post processing is hugely subject to personal preference, but here's my opinion.
Don't over do the image, especially by jacking up the vibrance, contrast or sharpening, you want to enhance the image, not ruin it, especially with wildlife images.
I liked the big tree branches, so I've kept as much of it as I could to keep the whole image in context, but just adjusted the colour, contrast, and toning. The key to post processing is learning how to create layer masks and masking/unmasking parts of the image to enhance the whole picture. After I created a mask and adjusted the background, I was able to separate the birds with the background by changing the contrast, brightness and vibrance.

The thing you should learn first is how to layer mask and use it effectively.
Good luck! :)

Here is my try of a PP for this pic.

Not great, but it is okay. The color on the eagles is not perfect yet, but the tree looks nice.
