EF 24-70 f/2.8L II To Start Shipping Tomorrow in the USA & Canada

My order shipped today, too.

But it wasn't for a 24-70 II.

Nor was it from B&H or Adorama.

 

I'm happy, though...it's my RRS L-plate for the 1D X, along with about $4K of additional RRS gear.

Got mine on Friday of last week, there's one advantage to being in Oz, closer to Japan? Lol

I am anxious to hear owner reviews about this lens. I have 70-200 is 2.8II paired with 5dII or 5dIII at weddings and the pictures are amazing, if this new 24-70 gives same results in terms of af speed and IQ I will pony up $2300 in a heartbeat and photography is not my main profession. I know it's expensive but so was the 70-200 I paid $2500 for, and has proved to be worth every penny.

In brief, it's fast AF, sharp @2.8 across the frame, creamy smooth and vibrant colour rendition. Nice firm but smooth zoom, and really nice and precise focus ring. I'm impressed.

Only minor negative so far is some faint onion bokeh from bright metallic oof highlights visible if pixel peeping, not a concern otherwise.

I tried the new tamron, returned it after 2 days. This best's it in every way (apart from IS) it has a similar construction to the tamron, with the rear element cluster moving in / out with zooming.  But it's to a higher standard of build and optics.

Its worth the wait, (coming from someone who held off purchasing for 2 years) then gave in and bought the tamron, returned it and waited some more...

I ordered mine from B&H on February 7th. 

They haven't sent me a "shipped" notice, but their web site did give me a UPS tracking number.

UPS says they don't yet have the package, so I assume it will ship tomorrow and arrive Wednesday.

PS  I also ordered one from Amazon on February 7th, but they have no update for me.
