Concert pictures
« on: September 11, 2012, 05:19:04 PM »
Some evening concert pictures from this weekend in an outdoor amphitheater setting.  First time I have shot a concert with digital gear.  All with EOS 5D Mk III, 70-200 f/2.8 II at various focal lengths and apertures (most from 2.8-5.6), no flash, RAW capture.   A couple of these images are cropped, they required very little noise reduction in LR4.  Give me some feedback, thanks.

Sorry, forgot to add the ISO's.  Moving from top down, ISO640, 800, 640, 400.  I had the camera set to manual and selected the aperture and shutter speed, with the ISO set to Auto.

The detail is quite good.  Glad to see you avoided the all too frequent microphone in the face..so good eye there.  There's some good candid shots here.

I was tasked with shooting a rock band recently and picked up a few good tips on concert photography prior especially with the dynamic lighting.  I had a chance to scope out the cub beforehand and access to the entire stage area even while the band was performing.  Before the band had gone on stage I had mentioned when I am kneeling down in front of the stage that is your queue to look down into the camera lens.  The results were pleasing as you will see one sample below.  I used both house lights (indoor) and flash.  The flash of course brought down the ISO to around 400 and made the shots somewhat sterile (not all) but the indoor lights pushed the ISO as high as 12800 however the images held up rather nicely with very low noise.  I shot with a 200mm prime 2.8 L, 16-35 USM L II 2.8 L and also a 24-105 F4 L.  Here's a few shots I'd like to add to this concert thread.
