POLL: With what features would you consider the 6d?
« on: September 18, 2012, 05:34:33 PM »
General opinion seems to be that the 6d is too little, too late. In my opinion Canon should at least have added all the latest gimmicks of the rebels like af with all cross-points, swivel/touch-screen and build-in flash to make it a "ff rebel" - but they fell even short of that.

So what's your opinion, what's missing from the 6d that prevents you from buying it? Please tick only the features you really expect at $2000+, the 6d obviously cannot be a just a cheaper 5d3.

Btw: if I've forgotten something I can still add it to the list.

I said many times before: Put the 5D3 (or 1DX) sensor in a cardboard box, 1 AF point, and price it at $1200 and i'd buy one.
I still stand by that.

6D is fine, price tag is not. (although having 7D or Better AF wouldn't hurt, as would CF, I'm not investing in another card system)

Obviously Canon is not prepared to to that and wants any ff camera to be more expensive than the top crop one, so the question for most people is what features should have been added - if Canon marketing would ask anyone besides themselves.

Well, if it has to be for $2000, then i suppose it has to have a lot better features than it does.

(actually, i'm more worried that if *Every* FF must cost more than *every* crop, then the 7D mk2 is going to blow big time too. No, i'm not worried, because I have a 7D mk1, looks like it was the last decent price/performance body they made, I got in at the right time...)

Lots of nice to have's but an AF that works well ie better than 5D2 is a must. I'm looking forward to reviews and testing before considering anything.

Assuming the Dec release date happens (wonder if this camera is being manufactured in China?) I'd imagine reviewers will have to get a hold of this thing pretty soon?

I guess they said December just not to be delayed again. On Amazon it reads October.

I never thought it would have an amazing AF system, just expected 9ish cross points.  Im stoked that it has SD, I dont need to start another memory system (no one with CF is probably interested anyway).  I view it is the broke-man's landscape/lowlight/studio camera: GPS for landscape, FF for low light (maybe), wifi for studio (low price comercial portraits, think sears).  The two things that I am shocked by are no swivel screen and the low flash sync speed, even my XSI has a faster sync and that is over 4 years old and an actual rebel.  At least it has AFMA

Just add the 7D AF.

The 7D is a cheaper, 3 years old camera. There is no reason in the world why we shouldn't be getting an AF at least on par with that in 2012 and in a 2100$ priced camera.

Nikon guys are complaining big time because they think D7000's AF is not good enough for the D600 at its price point. They just don't know how lucky they are.

For me the sensor, the AF, and Viewfinder are the essence of the camera.  Everything else is bells and whistles to me.  If the essentials aren't adequate, then no amount of the "pro features" are going to make up for the fact that I did not get the shot I was expecting.  As stated elsewhere, I would have considered it at around $2K if it had 11 proper cross-type points (and 100% viewfinder, although I'm not sure how accurate 100% really is, so this might not have been the deal breaker the AF was). Everything else is pretty much what I expected (Wi-Fi and GPS notwithstanding).

(The flash sync and shutter speeds down grades are just silly in my mind, because the "entry-level" Rebel audience doesn't care and better specs for these alone would not have drawn away 5D3 customers, IMHO.)

very interesting poll. clearly the primitive AF system makes it a non starter for most.

For me all it needs is at least an AF system with all 11 points being cross type or a 7D type AF system.

Dual CF/SD card slots would be brilliant, but I could live without it.

This is the exact camera I was hoping for, everything is pretty much perfect, it would be the perfect upgrade from my 60D. But the stupid AF system has put me off it so much. I may as well just save money and get a 5D Mark II.

AF option 3 was the deal-breaker for me... just ordered a $2599 5D2 kit from amazon instead.

While the lack of improved AF was the deal-breaker, the added gizmos (wifi/gps) meant that the body couldn't be full magnesium or as weatherproof, and the camera is generally crippled worse as compared to the 5D2 (lower shutter max speed/sync/durability was the one that really stood out for me).

As somebody that's more interested in core features and ruggedness, versus gadgets, the 5D2 kit was too good to pass up at $300 cheaper, with no waiting.  Had I wanted to spend more than I did, I would have saved my pennies for a 5D3 instead.

As somebody else has said on here, it's pure Canon marketing/strategy genius... the 6D will draw in beginners from the Rebel line who love the added gadgetry and promise of FF heaven, while the enthusiast-level people on the fence will be pushed upwards to the 5D3, especially after the remaining 5D2s are sold out.
