What, When, Where?
I receive little bits of information a fair bit about the “in development” 4K cinema EOS DSLR. Below are a few bits that seem possible.
Form Factor
There are various prototypes and body types. It will most likely be a new form factor. Somewhere between the 5D Mark II and 1D X in size. There will be some new button placements as well.
Megapixels
This will not be the monster megapixel camera from Canon.
Photokina 2012
Photokina 2012 is the goal for at least an announcement and functioning prototype. Canon does want to get it to market before the end of 2012.
Name
The name for the camera hasn't been selected yet, but it's probably going to have its own model number. However, it won't be the “mythical” “EOS 3D”.
