Mirrorless 5D Mark II
mirrorless5D - Odds & Ends
Someone has done this to a 7D already and called it the PL7D, but here's a mirrorless 5D Mark II. The camera can still take still photos but is really geared towards video.

See the complete tear down here.

85 f/1.1L?
NL read on a Linkedin discussion that Canon was readying an upgraded 85 f/1.1L. Take it for what it's worth. :)

Big White Lenses
We've heard before some big white lenses will be tested at the World Cup in South Africa. There's another suggestion that we won't see any new models for consumption until 2011.

I've also heard Photokina in September still may be the place to showoff at least 1 new big white lens. The 600 DO perhaps?

  1. I rented the 85 f/1.2 II, and it autofocused a bit slowly (I own the 135 f/2, and nothing has come close to its focus speed). AI Servo on this 85mm simply made it slowly cycle and hunt. Good thing I intended to use it manually anyway. I used liveview for focus. My crop sensor camera would show things in focus through the viewfinder, but at the sensor via liveview, they weren’t in focus. However, when I did use autofocus via “one shot” mode, it did so accurately, without any microfocus adjustment.

So basically, to manually focus it on my camera, I HAD to use liveview…which was a shame, because I loved the bright vivid image through the viewfinder.

I tried the lens on my cousin’s 5D Mk2, manually focusing on a mosquito window screen via viewfinder, then checked with liveview, and it was dead on. So I guess EF lenses like this one weren’t meant to focus accurately via the viewfinder…Has anyone else ever noticed this?

I’m sure the blowhards in residence will be quick to say my camera is junk or defective…well those of you know what you can do, lol…
