Canon EOS Rebel SL2 Confirmed for 2017 [CR3]

Canon EOS Rebel SL2 Confirmed for 2017 [CR3]

By Canon Rumors | February 27, 2017 | Canon DSLR Rumors

We’ve been told by a couple of sources now that we will definitely be seeing a Canon EOS Rebel SL2 in 2017. We don’t yet know exactly when we’ll see the new camera, but we don’t expect an announcement at least until after the brand new EOS Rebel T7i begins shipping at the end of March.

We had been told previously that a new EF-S prime lens would be coming, and it would make sense if these two products came around the same time.

We think that’ll likely be it for APS-C DSLRs from Canon in 2017, there won’t be an EOS 90D or EOS 7D Mark III this year.

Specifications are unavailable at this time, but we’ll obviously pass them on if we hear anything.

Review: Canon EOS M5: “The Best M So Far”, Says TDP

Review: Canon EOS M5: “The Best M So Far”, Says TDP

By Canon Rumors | February 27, 2017 | Canon Reviews

“Easily the best “M” so far!”

Bryan at The-Digital-Picture has completed his review of the Canon EOS M5 mirrorless camera.

From TDP

If you have been waiting to jump into a Canon MILC and an APS-C sensor format works for you, the EOS M5 is a great choice.

While one may feel a tendency to treat a camera of this size as a point and shoot model, using it only for those still-important snapshot opportunities that pop up (it works extremely well for these opportunities) would mean grievously underutilizing a highly-capable camera. The M5 has great image quality, an excellent AF system (intelligent, quickly controllable and good speed) and an impressive set of features and controls. Read the full review

We have yet to use the EOS M5, but I have put one order after reading Bryan’s review and I look forward to actually enjoying the EOS M system for the first time.

CP+ Interview With Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki

CP+ Interview With Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki

By Canon Rumors | February 27, 2017 | Third Party Lenses

DPReview was able to sit down with Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki and talk all things lenses at CP+ in Yokohama, Japan. One thing we have learned reading this interview is that Sigma truly listens to customers and tries to make the products we ask for.

From DPReview:

Q: You’ve told me previously that you really want Sigma to make more wideangle lenses. Do you think you’re achieving that goal with the 12-24mm and new 14mm?

A: Yes, but I’m still not satisfied. I think we need to make more wide-angle lenses. A fast 14mm was one of the lenses that our customers were asking for. Most existing 14mm lenses are F2.8, so F1.8 was a challenge.

Q: Sigma’s new Art-series lenses have a degree of weather-sealing – why now?

A: It’s based on customer demand. Some of our customers said that rain and snow sometimes got into the lens mount, so they wanted sealing. And the other reason is that it’s becoming a trend. Other manufacturers are offering sealed mounts.

You can read the full interview over at DPReview.

**You can now receive a preorder notification from us once pricing is available for the new Sigma lenses. We also have a few surprises in store for those that do. Check that out here.

As well all know, Sigma announced a bevy of wonderful new Art and Contemporary series lenses this past week. The bad news is, pricing and preorders have not become available.

We’re told that pricing will not be released until the end of March, which means there will be no preorders until this time. However, we did have information from an authorized retailer that pricing was to be released this past week, so we’re not sure if anything has been truly finalized as of yet. If the end of March is the case, we’re hoping shipping will follow almost immediately.

Announced Sigma lenses:

  • Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG HSM OS Art
  • Sigma 135mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art

Spectacular Canon Cinema EOS C700 Production for SWISS Int. Airlines

Spectacular Canon Cinema EOS C700 Production for SWISS Int. Airlines

By Canon Rumors | February 24, 2017 | Cinema EOS News

There are a few things in this world I wish I had the skills to accomplish, and this sort of cinematography is definitely one of them. After watching the production 10 or so times, I figured we’d share it.

The LAUSCHSICHT team sent us their latest project shot on Canon’s latest Cinema EOS camera, the C700. Along with the C700, a Canon Cinema EOS C300 Mark II (and a few GoPro’s) were used to make this spectacular air show production for SWISS Int. Airlines.

The task was to capture the spectacular airshow by SWISS and Patrouille Suisse performed during the World Ski Championship 2017 in St. Moritz. The target audience was very clear too: People fascinated by such an airshow. Our approach: To focus on the beauty of such a show. Moments, instead of action.

Be sure to go full screen while watching the production below.
