Canon has released their Q3 2016 financials and they’re still making money, just not as much as they’d like to be.
Oct 26 Japan’s Canon Inc said on Tuesday its third quarter operating profit fell 48 percent, hurt by a strengthened yen following Britain’s vote to leave the European Union.
Operating profit for the three months ended Sept. 30 declined to 40 billion yen ($383.62 million) from 77.3 billion yen a year earlier. Five analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters estimated an average third quarter operating profit of 58.3 billion yen.
The world’s biggest maker of cameras and printers also lowered its operating profit forecast for the year through December to 235 billion yen from a 265 billion yen estimate in July. ($1 = 104.2700 yen) (Reporting by Tim Kelly; Editing by Muralikumar Anantharaman)

We’re told once again that a full frame mirrorless camera is definitely in the works at Canon. As we’ve also said before, the biggest challenge to the design team is making good use of EF mount lenses. There will not be a 4th mount (EF, EF-S, EF-M) added to the Canon ILC lineup.
It’s possible we’re going to see a full frame mirrorless fixed lens camera from Canon before we see an ILC full frame mirrorless. We were told a while ago that such a camera was in development and apparently that is still ongoing.
The product roadmap for mirrorless from Canon has no been finalized and there’s a good chance we’re going to hear a lot of conflicting information over the coming months. The source doesn’t expect any sort of full frame mirrorless announcement until the end of 2017 at the earliest.
More to come…

Roger at Lensrentals.com has completed his bench test of the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III wide angle zoom lens. It looks like the lens performance is the new pinnacle for wide angle zoom lenses and you should probably go ahead and buy one!
This summary is quick and simple. From a resolution standpoint, the Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 Mk III is the best f/2.8 wide-angle zoom available. You might be better served with the f/4 IS and some money in your pocket. There are also some very good wide-angle f/2.8 zooms available from third party manufacturers that are a lot less expensive and might offer more bang-for-the-buck. But if your style of photography needs the highest resolution you can get with a wide-angle lens, well this is it. I don’t use a wide-angle zoom all that often, but when I do, it will be this one.
