*UPDATE* B&H Replaces The Camera for free.
It turns out that B&H Photo sent Kurtis a new camera on the house.
Sorry Kurtis
I don’t like to be entertained by other peoples mishaps, however I think this is a public service announcement in some ways.
There is a nice lead up to the death of a 5D Mark II. Mother nature is fun.

*UPDATE* Firmware Available (Canon USA)
You can now download the firmware from Canon USA.
Download Here
Firmware version 2.1.1 incorporates the following fixes and improvements:
- Fixes a phenomenon where shooting stops after capturing one image when in continuous shooting or the Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB) continuous shooting setting.
- Corrects misspellings in the menu screens displayed in Dutch language.
There is no download link that I can find anywhere, so the above may change before it becomes downloadable.

When you get your 5D Mark III…..
Why not convert your 5D Mark II to an infrared camera?
Keith over at Northlight has been using an infrared 5D Mark II for a while now gives his thoughts with examples about the medium
Well it takes practice to get consistently good results. Focus needs care and it helps to bracket exposures to allow for the variable amounts of IR light in a scene compared to what you can see.
The ‘creative’ aspects of IR photography are more difficult to pin down from my own point of view.
There is that initial burst of enthusiasm for something different – that urge to explore and see just what you can do.

New Cameras?
No, there are no direct replacements coming soon.
The issue with shortages is to do with the floods in Thailand and parts needed to manufacture the cameras. Nikon is having the same troubles and the D7000 is experiencing the same issues.
I haven’t heard if any other Canon DSLR is affected.

5D Mark II - Canada
In Canada, the 5D Mark II body only is out there for $1999 at Henry’s and Vistek.
5D Mark II – USA
There will be an instant rebate on the 5D Mark II in the USA starting September 25 and running until October 29, 2011.
Let me know if your country sees a big rebate on the 5D Mark II

The EOS 6D or similar
Received a vague bit of information that Canon could be readying a new entry level full frame camera. It would sit below any sort of 5D Mark III. It would not be the “mythical’ 3D.
The camera would be lower megapixel than the 5D Mark III. A Canon rep recently told the BBC that “fewer megapixels are better”.
When?
I’m still getting some hints of an October announcement of some kind of DSLR, nothing seems difinitive though.
There is a suggestion Canon themselves don’t even know what they’re going to announce, if anything at all. The problem is not prototypes that aren’t ready, the problem is production. If there is an October announcement for a DSLR, I wouldn’t expect immediate delivery based on this information.
