Canon Releases Digital Photo Professional 4.5.20

Canon Releases Digital Photo Professional 4.5.20

By Canon Rumors | January 11, 2017 | Canon Software

Canon has released a new update to its popular Digital Photo Professional 4 (DPP4) software. Version 4.5.20 adds support for older cameras including EOS-1Ds Mark II, EOS-1D Mark II N, EOS-1D Mark II, EOS 5D, EOS 40D, EOS 30D, EOS 20Da, EOS 20D, EOS 400D DIGITAL (EOS Kiss Digital X / EOS DIGITAL REBEL XTi), EOS 350D DIGITAL (EOS Kiss Digital N / EOS DIGITAL REBEL XT), PowerShot G15, PowerShot S110, PowerShot S100, and PowerShot S100V along with support for the EF70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM lens…

Since its launch in 2014, Digital Photo Professional 4 has grown to support over 50 DSLR and PowerShot cameras. As well as supporting all the current professional full-frame DSLRs in the Canon range, this latest update now supports a wider range of older models and addresses a few other issues such as:

  • Improved accuracy of the lens data of Digital Lens Optimizer for EF50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro, EF24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 USM, EF-S60mm f/2.8 Macro USM lenses.
  • Fixed the problem where it takes time to display a preview image on the high resolution display.
  • Fixed the phenomenon on the Mac OS in which RAW images imported via remote shooting are not displayed for preview in some cases.

Commenting on this latest DPP4 update, Mike Burnhill, Canon Europe’s Professional Imaging Technical Support Programme manager, told CPN: “DPP continues to prove itself as a popular workflow tool for those photographers dedicated to maintaining an all-Canon workflow from capture to print. Canon developed DPP to work seamlessly with Canon cameras and we are delighted more and more users are discovering its workflow benefits. We have been listening to customers and expanding support for new and existing models within DPP.”

Another Mention of Big White Lens Revisions [CR1]

Another Mention of Big White Lens Revisions [CR1]

By Canon Rumors | January 10, 2017 | Canon Lens Rumors

We’ve been told that Canon is working on revisions to “some” of the big white lenses for a 2018 release. Beyond the new EF 600mm f/4 DO IS, which we’re told could be announced in late 2017, Canon does plan for some “minor” revisions of the current lineup. Weight reduction and a new IS system is apparently the goal from the new lenses.

2018 is an Olympic and World Cup year, and Canon tends to release or at least test pro gear during those times.

When were the current non-DO big white lenses announced?

  • Canon EF 200mm f/2L IS 2008
  • Canon EF 200-400mm f/4L IS 1.4x 2013
  • Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II 2011
  • Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II 2011
  • Canon EF 500mm f/4L IS II 2011
  • Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS II 2011
  • Canon EF 800mm f/5.6L IS 2008

The current iterations of the 300,400,500 and 600mm lenses came 12 years after the previous versions. Which makes a 7 year upgrade cycle seem a bit quick. The possibility of a new 200 f/2L IS and EF 800 f/5.6L IS seem a bit more likely. However, the latter have the lowest volume of sales of the entire series of non-DO “big white lenses”.

Canon EF 135mm f/2L IS Coming in 2017 [CR2]

By Canon Rumors | January 9, 2017 | Canon Lens Rumors

We’re told that a new Canon EF 135mm f/2L IS is planned for 2017, the new EF 135mm f/2L IS would be announced after the EF 85mm f/1.4L IS has started shipping.

We still do not know the announcement date for that lens, just that it’s coming in 2017.

We’re going to try and get some confirmation so we can upgrade the rating.

Sigma to Announce 24-70mm f/2.8 Art Ahead of CP+ Next Month? [CR2]

By Canon Rumors | January 6, 2017 | Third Party Lenses

We’re told that Sigma is aiming to announce a 24-70mm f/2.8 OS Art series lens ahead of CP+ in Yokohama, Japan, which starts on February 23, 2017.

We’ve seen one patent for a new Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 back in March of 2016.

We’re also told that Sigma hopes to have the lens at retailers before the summer and that the announcement could be pushed until after CP+ if they can’t meet that target.

Review: Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM

Review: Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM

By Canon Rumors | January 5, 2017 | Canon Reviews

The-Digital-Picture has completed their review of the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM lens.

From TDP:

The technology upgrades appearing in this lens make it potentially a better choice than even some higher-priced lenses for at least some applications including video. Those already having a high end telephoto zoom lens in their kit may still be interested in having a light weight, low cost alternative available for casual photography opportunities. The attractively-designed 70-300 IS II features great AF and IS systems, but it is the excellent price-to-performance ratio that makes it an easy choice and worthwhile addition to a great many photographers’ kits.
