Another new 70-200 f/2.8
It looks like Tamron is going to be refreshing their 70-200 f/2.8 with a new version. The new version will add Tamron’s vibration correction as well as a new optical design.

The lenses keep on coming
I received some pretty good detail about a new EF 70-200 f/4L IS that may be announced in the next month.
The first version of this lens is terrific, and for a while outperformed the 2.8 IS counterpart (other than light gathering ability).
Some points on the reported new lens.
- It will include a newer version of the Canon fluorine coating reducing light scatter within the lens.
- The new coating will drastically increase the scratch resistance on the front element.
- The lens will be fully metal, besides the zoom and focus rings.
- The image quality is supposed to be the best as far as Canon zooms go (like version 1 was).
- Mid January announcement.
We have been told that Canon will be updating a lot of current lenses in 2012.

DPR has completed their review of the new EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS II.
The review is very favorable outside of their opinion of the bokeh. I didn’t find it all that pleasing either.
Overall, then, the EF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS II USM gains about as close as it gets to an unqualified recommendation, given the price. Its combination of exceptional optics and quirk-free design even manages to surpass Nikon’s equivalent that we tested recently, stealing the crown of ‘Best in Class’ by a whisker. It’s a significant improvement over what was already an accomplished lens, capable of consistently delivering results that will satisfy the most demanding of users, and you can’t ask for much more than that.

Photozone has completed their review of the EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS II.
The review is very favorable outside of pricing. We all knew it was going to cost a lot more than the previous version, we can all dream though.

Lens Rentals Canada
Canadians may have seen ads for a site called Lens Rentals Canada.
I am partnered in the new Canadian company. We have no affiliation with LensRentals.com in the US, even though Roger is a great guy!
Our goal at Lens Rentals Canada is to create the easiest, most efficient and most enjoyable online rental experience in the country. There will be some bumps along the way, but we’re committed to the best customer service in the country.
We stock lots and will be adding more stuff as demand dictates. The first week of launch has been great!
If it seems I’ve disappeared a bit lately, this is why!
Downtown Camera (Toronto)
I rarely show support for photography stores out there. There are so many great ones. I’d be doing it a lot. So I like to keep it for very special occasions.
Downtown Camera in Toronto, Canada did me a huge favor and I just wanted to say “thanks” here.

Quote from TDP
I consider the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II USM Lens to be the second most important lens in my kit with the first being a more general purpose lens in focal length range. It is not an inexpensive lens, but it is very worth the price in my opinion – and very worthy of its red ring. While this is a completely pro-grade lens, you definitely do not have to be a pro to appreciate it. Get the “II”!

*UPDATE* Jeff Ascough and his “stealth” rangefinder
A few people have commented and emailed me thinking he’s setting up an April fools joke.
It’s an early April Fool’s joke. He’s written about the AF performance. Enough said!
Nice one Jeff.
