Canon EOS 7D Mark II Related Announcements Coming for Photokina [CR2]

By Canon Rumors | July 24, 2016 | Canon DSLR Rumors

We’re told that the EOS 7D Mark II will be getting some attention for Photokina this September with some kit and accessory announcements.

  1. A firmware announcement sometime in August, no word on whether it’s just a bug fix update or not. Don’t get your hopes up for a crazy new features! We’ll let you know if we hear any more about it.
  2. The EOS 7D Mark II will come with a new lens kit, likely the new nano-usm EF-S 18-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS USM.
  3. A new “affordable” wifi adaptor for the EOS 7D Mark II.

We’re not sure what the new wifi adaptor looks like or what type of throughput it will offer, but if they could release a flash shoe wifi adaptor for around $100 USD, I think they’d get a lot of takers. I don’t think they sold a lot of the $769 Canon WFT-E7A that is currently available.

We also don’t know if this new wifi adaptor will be specifically for the EOS 7D Mark II.

Venus Optics to Announce Laowa 12mm f/2.8 Lens on July 30

By Canon Rumors | July 24, 2016 | Third Party Lenses

Venus Optics will be announcing the Laowa 12mm f/2.8 “distortion free” lens on July 30 via Kickstarter. They’re claiming this to be the worlds widest f/2.8 lens.

Keith over at Northlight Images has had the pleasure of using the lens and had this to say about it.

Very nice for a fully manual lens – by the time you’re at f5.6/8 it pushes the 11-24. Very straight lines – that’s the ‘Zero-D’ name

Keith has completed a lengthy review of the Laowa 12mm f/2.8 and is available on the forum to answer any questions you may have about the lens. It looks like Venus Optics has a winner on their hands if they can get it to market.

More Talk About the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II [CR2]

By Canon Rumors | July 21, 2016 | Canon Lens Rumors

There has been a bit more talk about the upcoming Canon EF 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS II. We haven’t yet nailed down the announcement date, but all indications say it will be before Photokina in September.

We’re told the new lens will have a “digital display” like the Zeiss Batis lenses, what information is on that display is unknown at this time. The lens will also feature nano usm.

We’re also told that the new version is slightly heavier than the previous version due to the front element and has a “stubbier” design.
