10 Years of the EOS 5D Line: The Movie

By Canon Rumors | July 3, 2015 | Canon DSLR News

Back in May Canon started celebrating the 10 year anniversary of the EOS 5D line.

Yesterday they released a short movie showing the development of the line from the EOS 5D, to the EOS 5D Mark II and EOS 5D Mark III and most recently the EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R.

It has been a revolutionary line of cameras in various ways, and hopefully we get more innovation in the future. I’m talking to you EOS 5D Mark IV!

Review – Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS

Review – Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS

By Canon Rumors | July 1, 2015 | Canon Reviews

Dustin has completed his review of the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS for Canon Rumors. I’m glad he did, as this is one of my favourite Canon lenses. I fell in love with it while in Kenya and you can read my review of the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS here.

I’m frequently asked “Which lens should I buy, the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS or the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS?”

I generally give everyone the same answer:

If you have a 400mm or longer prime that takes teleconverters easily, get the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS. You’ll love how compact it is and its stellar performance. You’re also more likely to bring it along if bag space is at a premium.

If you don’t have a long prime, and don’t plan to get one, then get the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II. You’ll like having the extra length and the ability to use Canon teleconverters in an emergency.

Dustin is also a big fan of the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS:

In conclusion, the truth of the matter is that I really, really love this lens. It has a few limitations, sure, but also has a great combination of killer optics and a great focal length in a sturdy and fairly compact body. It is a fabulous travel lens and a credible wildlife option. It even does a great job as a portrait or event lens when you don’t have a more natural option. I love it as a landscape lens as well. It isn’t cheap, but this is a pro grade lens that produces pro grade results.
