EF 35mm f/1.4L II to Finally Come as Well? [CR2]

EF 35mm f/1.4L II to Finally Come as Well? [CR2]

We’re told that that Canon will replace their 35mm f/1.4L following the announcement and shipping of the upcoming EF 11-24mm f/4L, which has been rumoured since August. We’re told that an announcement date hasn’t been set, however the lens could appear as early as Q1 of 2015, or fall into the second quarter of next year.

This lens has been rumoured for replacement since the EF 24mm f/1.4L II was announced back in 2008. There have been a lot of patents for such a lens, but nothing has come to fruition.

New Canon L Primes, but Not Until 2015 [CR2)

New Canon L Primes, but Not Until 2015 [CR2)

We’re told to expect new Canon L primes, but none will be announced in 2014.

The first one we can expect is a new 35L in early 2015, this has been rumored since the 24L was announced. There have been lots of patents for the optical formula, but nothing has come of it.

The second is a new 50L in late 2015. The new lens is said to be a lot smaller and lighter, perhaps a drop to f/1.4?

There may have been development delays in L lens development as Canon has been working hard building a cinema lens lineup.

Canon EF 35 f/1.4L II to Finally Arrive? [CR1]

Canon EF 35 f/1.4L II to Finally Arrive? [CR1]

Canon EF 35 f/1.4L II
We received a a hands-on claim about a prototype Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II. We’re told that the lens is in the hands of select photographers and could be announced in the first half of 2014.

It’s said that the lens is slightly wider than the current version but weighs a bit less. The lens has a new type of coating on at least one of the elements. The version that was tested had a 77mm filter thread.

This lens has been long rumoured for replacement and a few patents (here and here) have shown up over the years. However, it’s sounding like we may finally get to see one in 2014.
