Canon EOS Rebel SL2 Coming for CP+ [CR1]

By Canon Rumors | February 4, 2016 | Canon DSLR Rumors

The unicorn that is the Rebel  SL2 is now being rumored to be coming for CP+ at the end of February.

We haven’t heard anything about the SL2 in a long time, and it almost feels like people are assuming the SL1 is going to get an update. It sold well once it became heavily discounted, and maybe it has a big enough user base now to warrant an update.

The only DSLR we’re hearing about at the moment is the EOS  80D, although no one has told us when it would be announced, CP+ just seems like a good place to do it.

…….  the EOS 80D.

We wouldn’t be surprised if this replacement for the EOS 70D is announced before the start of CP+ this month in Japan. The EOS-1D X Mark II will get a few weeks in the spotlight leading up to CP+.

All we’ve heard about the EOS 80D is that it will have improved AF performance as well as more autofocus points. We don’t expect anything too revolutionary like 4K video.

I do realize most of you care about the replacement for the EOS 5D Mark III, but for the moment, there’s nothing solid on its development that we can report. I suspect we’ll get at least one “5D” camera some time before the summer.

More to come…

Canon Executive Talks EOS M in 2016

Canon Executive Talks EOS M in 2016

By Canon Rumors | February 2, 2016 | Canon DSLR Rumors

In an interview with ASCII.jp, Canon executive Yagi Koichi had this to say about the immediate future of the EOS M line (Google translated).

“in the third quarter and fourth quarter of 2015, we have been able to ship a lot of mirror-less the number of cameras, not yet satisfied by For. At present new products, but mention can not be, the third quarter in 2016, towards the fourth quarter and that the “mirror-less market is forecast to grow, Canon’s share of the” mirror-less camera market and two years ago the 4-position, we want to aim at the 3-position.

My summary of the above quote:

We’re working on new mirrorless products that we plan to launch in Q3 and Q4 of 2016, we obviously can’t discuss those products at this time. We’re currently #4 in mirrorless, and want to get to #3 in marketshare in the near future. We do expect the mirrorless market to continue to grow and we want to be a part of that growth, but we need to produce better mirrorless cameras.

So it sounds like Canon has plans for a big splash in mirrorless for Photokina 2016 in Cologne, Germany.

thanks Jenson
