Lensrentals.com Compares the Canon EF 85mm f/1.4L IS Against the Competition

By Canon Rumors | December 11, 2017 | Canon Reviews

Lensrentals.com has posted a comparison between the EF 85mm f/1.4L IS, EF 85mm f/1.2L and the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 Art. This comparison is not their usual scientific endeavour using OLAF, this is a bit more of a real world comparison by looking at images with our own eyes.

From Lensrentals.com:

The Canon 85mm f1.2L II is the standard and is really middle of the road in this comparison. It’s a great lens with that dreamy bokeh but is the most expensive and is slow to focus. The Canon 85mm f1.4L IS performed amazingly with everything I threw at it. It’s sharper than the 1.2, faster, and has image stabilization but is still pretty expensive. The budget Sigma 85mm f1.4 Art lens is sharp and quick but is really heavy. My new choice to keep in my camera bag for a wedding is definitely going to be the new Canon 85mm f1.4L IS for the image stabilization alone. Read the full comparison

We await full OLAF testing to make sure that the machines agree.

Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 OS Sport & Sigma 70-200 f/4 OS Contemporary Coming? [CR1]

By Canon Rumors | December 10, 2017 | Third Party Lenses

We’re told that Sigma will be announcing two new 70-200mm lens in the early part of 2018. One of the lenses will be a 70-200mm f/2.8 DG OS Art series lens, and the other a 70-200mm f/4 DG OS contemporary lens.

The 70-200mm f/2.8 DG OS Sport has been rumored for quite some time, but this is the first time we’ve heard about an f/4 contemporary version.

This sort of announcement would make some sense for CP+ in February, I’m not sure CES in January is the place to announce these lenses.

This comes from an unknown source, so treat it accordingly.

Patent: Lots of Big White Lens Patent Applications Surface

Patent: Lots of Big White Lens Patent Applications Surface

By Canon Rumors | December 7, 2017 | Canon Patents

New patents for supertelephoto optical formulas have appeared at the USPTO.

The range of formulas is quite vast, all the way from a new EF 300mm f/2.8L IS to a new EF 800mm f/5.6L IS design.

We do think there will be some new “big white” lenses announced in the next 12 months, not including the EF 600mm f/4 DO IS. We’ve heard from at least one person that Canon may take the EF 200mm f/2L IS back to its f/1.8 roots. Though the latter hasn’t yet been confirmed.

Northlight-Images uncovered a lot of the patent applications, you can view them all here over at the USPTO. [12345]

More Cinema EOS C300 Mark III Information [CR0]

By Canon Rumors | December 7, 2017 | Canon Cinema EOS Rumors

*UPDATE* We’re going to downgrade this set of EOS C300 Mark III rumors to [CR0] after getting some confirmation from someone we trust.

Earlier in the week we posted some information about the Canon EOS C300 Mark III that came from unknown places. Yesterday we received more information from the same place. It’s starting to feel like we may be getting trolled.

Anyway, here’s what else we’ve been told is coming in the new camera.

  • 4K Internal 4:4:4
  • 6K RAW
  • Priced above $20,000
  • Newly designed shoulder mount.

Over the years I’ve learned that if a specification list doesn’t feel like it’s something Canon would do, it’s because Canon isn’t going to be doing it. This feels like one of those times.

Take all of this with a huge grain of salt.
