A new patent for an EF 58mm f1.4 optical formula has appeared. Nikon currently has a Nikkor 58mm f/1.4G. Could we be getting closer to a replacement for the EF 50mm f/1.4?

Canon Cinema EOS C300 Mark II First Impressions

By Canon Rumors | October 1, 2015 | Cinema EOS News

LensRentals.com has published their first impressions with the brand new Canon Cinema EOS C300 Mark II.

Ryan Hill says:

Surprisingly, the thing that impressed me most in my time with the Canon C300 Mark II had nothing to do with resolution, bit rate, or dynamic range. Digital video technology has improved so much in just the last few years that those specs, while enormously important, aren’t enough on their own to make me choose one camera over the other. There are simply so many great digital cinema cameras on the market right now that it takes a wholly original feature to make a camera stand out. In the case of the Canon C300 Mark II, that feature is autofocus. Sure, if possible, you’re always going to be better off with a dedicated focus puller. That’s not always an option, though, especially for solo operators like me who value mobility and speed over precision. On the documentary side of things, you can’t reset and try again if your focus is off, and that means having reliable continuous autofocus is invaluable.

Below is some test footage that is graded and ungraded. You can read the rest of the article over at LensRentals.com/Blog

FoCal 2.0 is ready for prime time, we’re excited to release FoCal 2.0 to users and believe it’s the most stable, easiest to use and provides the most accurate calibrations of any version of FoCal to date. Development and testing have put in a huge amount of time to re-write and re-design much of the underlying software as well as updates to the user interface to make FoCal more user friendly.

A host a new features and enhancements to existing features mean that FoCal 2.0 is the most comprehensive way to test and calibrate autofocus on modern Canon and Nikon dSLRs available.

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV to Come Before NAB [CR2]

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV to Come Before NAB [CR2]

By Canon Rumors | September 30, 2015 | Canon DSLR Rumors

We’re told that the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV will be announced before NAB 2016 in April. How far in advance of the show, we’re not sure. We do note that WPPI is at the beginning of March 2016, while products are rarely announced for that show, WPPI (wedding photographers) is a big target market for the EOS 5D Mark IV.

We’re expecting a new Cinema EOS camera for NAB in April, so I don’t think a stills DSLR will get announced specifically for that show either.

While the EOS-1D X successor is expected first, we haven’t been told when that will be unleashed on the masses.

No specifications were given for the EOS 5D Mark IV at this time.
