RIP Canon EF 15 f/2.8 Fisheye

RIP Canon EF 15 f/2.8 Fisheye

We’ll miss ya
The Canon EF 15 f/2.8 is officially discontinued at B&H.

I hear from lots of people that aren’t happy with the 8-15 f/4L fisheye. They wish Canon would update the full frame fisheye 2.8 prime.

How many of you wish Canon would do a fast L prime fisheye?

Sigma to the rescue?
I will say, the Sigma 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye is a great lens. It’s what we stock at Lens Rentals Canada. It can be had for $609 at B&H. I feel it’s as good as the Canon 15 f/2.8 was/is.

thanks Steve

5D Mark III & Lenses

5D Mark III & Lenses

Nothing Major
Another known source has spoken up and said a 5D Mark II replacement will be in quarter 1 in 2012. It was also said the line would include a “surprise”.

Lenses
Canon has apparently told some dealers in Europe that the 5D2/24-70 kit will no longer be available.

Signs of a replacement of the 24-70 is starting to show some more signs.

EF 8-15 f/4L
I have been playing with one for a day or two, trying to figure out how to effectively use a fisheye. I’d like a review up by the end of next week.

More soon, been sick.

Lenses Officially Delayed

Lenses Officially Delayed

Probably not a shocker
Canon has officially delayed the EF 8-15 f/4L Fisheye, EF 300 f/2.8L IS II & EF 400 f/2.8L IS II.

The new date? No one knows.

A bigtime lens guy said he expects to see “an abominable snowman riding a unicorn” before he sees the new fisheye.

I think June/July at the earliest now.

Official Press Release (Translated)

*UPDATE* EF 8-15 Fisheye Availability

*UPDATE* EF 8-15 Fisheye Availability

*UPDATE 1*
A reader from the fine nation of Germany showed me an invoice saying delivery will take place on March 24, 2011.

Thanks Doug

I want my fisheye please
NL
received a suggestion they won’t be seeing the new fisheye until April in the UK. After asking around here, the same seems to be true for Canada.

I suspect only the Asian markets and very select retailers in the US will receive the lens in March.

Canon EF 8-15 f/4L Sample Videos

A lot of people are waiting for this lens.
Check out a video made with the upcoming EF 8-15 f/4L Fisheye lens. It’s going to be a very fun lens to use. They used a 5D Mark II and 7D to make the film.

All signs point to us not being able to buy this lens until January.
