Two Red Dot Cameras?
People are commenting on the red dot on the C300 image below, but it also appears on the EOS DSLR camera in the image. No idea what’s up with that for the moment.
ISO Performance #3
A Sam Nicholson film is showing, and the noise from the previous film isn’t showing in this one.
ISO Performance #2
The 2nd short film they’re showing is noticeably noisier.
Breathtaking ISO Performance
Filmmakers and the audience are commenting about how clean, sharp and beautiful the example short films are. The lowlight performance may be revolutionary.
Canon EOS C300
It looks like 3 new compact primes and 2 zoom lenses. Can be mounted on the new Cinema EOS camera as well as Canon EOS DSLRs.
14:44 I’m told (@GoForJared) the new camera is called the EOS C 300, and not the previously reported EOS 300C.
Live from Hollywood
A few places on the web will be doing some live blogging of the event in Hollywood.
Mitch @ Planet5D is there.
Engadget will also be there.
I will be continually updating a post here as new information and imagery comes about.
The “historical” announcement is a day away. We have heard nothing else in regards to what’s coming.
Canon didn’t send me an invite after I asked for one, I think they had a good laugh at my request judging by the smiley faces in the email.
I expect a Super35 4K capable camera with PL and EF mount options. 2 to 3 lenses are also expected.
I was also told that we’ll see at least two compact cine lenses, and possibly a third. No focal lengths were mentioned.
- Price: sub $15,000 – possible down to $10,000
- Image quality: Alexa good
- SDI outs
- XLRs (audio)
- Piviting & detachable monitors and grips
- PL mount and EF mount options
- Resolution – 4k capture, 2k recording
There will be no DSLR announcement on November 3, 2011. This is a video only announcement. However, there could be “EF” and “EOS” branding involved.
I was told Vincent Laforet has been shooting promo material with the new camera in the Los Angeles area. However, he was NOT shooting with a DSLR.
That was fun!
The EOS 1D X caught a lot of people off guard, and shows a dynamic shift in Canon’s EOS product line. There are surely some really exciting and more than evolutionary products in the pipeline from Canon.
November 3, 2011 (No Rating)
I’m still pretty convinced that the November 3, 2011 announcement in Hollywood will be in regards to a video camera or two. One of them will NOT be the 5D Mark III.
The basic breakdown of what I’ve been told so far.
- Possibly 2 cameras
- EF & PL Mount
- Super35mm Sensor
- One could be EOS branded
- A 30-300 lens.
- Possibly 3 lenses in total.
I’m told whatever launches may not be a 4K camera, but will become a 4K camera down the line.
No CR rating on any of this stuff. Partially due to ignorance and new sources passing on information.
October 26, 2011
The PDN show is in New York City next week, and there is an event scheduled for October 26, 2011.
One thing that will be possibly introduced is the Canon Pro-1 printer. A 12 colour A3+ printer.
I do not expect any other EOS camera to be announced. The 1D X deserves the spotlight it’s going to get next week.
Lenses (No Rating)
The always difficult to predict lens announcements. I think (not know) we’ll be seeing a lens or two announced within the next month. Whether it’s next week or not I don’t know.
Only 2 lenses have been mentioned as being “announced” soon.
5D Mark III
Canon may have amalgamated the 1D line, however I think a split of the 5D line is a possibility. I have been told that has been discussed and put into practice with prototypes. I don’t expect any announcement of such a camera(s) until well into 2012. That could obviously change.
1Ds Mark III Studio Replacement?
We were told ages ago that the 1Ds Mark III replacement would be a massive departure. The dates haven’t come to fruition, but the big megapixel Nikon has, as well as the 1Ds being eaten up by the 1D X.
I’ll do a breakdown of the new 1D X shortly. I hope to head to NYC next week to check it out in person.
Received a brief bit of information in regards to the November 3, 2011 announcement in Hollywood. It’s another person pointing to a video camera related release.
- Compact Super 35mm sensor video camera
- Records onto CompactFlash
- 3 accompanying lenses
I can hear the collective tears hitting the floor.
The recent rebates on the 5D Mark II have nothing to do with an imminent release of an updated camera. They have more to do with selling lots of 5D Mark IIs. I’d expect rebates to be extended right through to Christmas (Dec 25).
What is coming?
Two new video cameras are coming to us on November 3, 2011.
What I think I know about them
One will be EF mount, the other will be PL mount. They will be both be higher end cameras, and could reach the price point of $10000+. It has also been suggested that the EF mount camera could fall under the “EOS” banner.
crazy things I’ve heard about them?
One of them would have a square sensor and take 48mp still images. I’ll [CR1] that one.
Noooooo, What about the 5D Mark III?
There is absolutely nothing, I mean nothing about a 5D Mark III being imminent. I have received the “no new DSLR in 2011″ line from 7-8 different sources. One source said if something is announced in 2011, it would be near the end of December for CES/PMA, but that was merely conjecture.
So no 1Ds4, 5D Mark III or the rumoured 6D (name guess) in 2011.
A curveball could still come, announcements for products can change. Just because they announce, it doesn’t mean they have to ship anything.
“Canon is making an historical global announcement”
So what does Canon have planned for November 3, 2011? Something big apparently.
I would say this event is NOT for an EOS or Mirrorless camera system, the city it’s being held in should be a giveaway. I expect something new and exciting for the cinematographer.
We had this rumor a few weeks back about a November announcement.
4K camera? An EF compatible video camera? Something to compete with RED? Something to compete with Sony & Panasonic? I’m sure we’ll be learning more before November 3, 2011.
It has been suggested by a reader that the event could be related to the Project Imagin8ion partnership with Ron Howard.
Thanks to everyone that sent this in.
