The TSA Will Require You To Take Your Camera Out of Your Carry-On Now

By Canon Rumors | July 26, 2017 | Industry News

It looks like traveling through United States airports will become even more laborious, as you will now have to remove all electronics larger than a smartphone from your carry-on.

Is it a huge deal? Not really, I think I’m asked to remove camera gear or I get hit by a second screening 50% of the time anyway.

If you are part of the TSA’s PreCheck program, you won’t have to remove your electronics & cameras from carry-on.

Press release after the break.

Some Minor Canon Lens Announcement Clarification

Some Minor Canon Lens Announcement Clarification

By Canon Rumors | July 26, 2017 | Canon DSLR Rumors

We’re still trying to figure out what is coming alongside the EF 85mm f/1.4L IS at the end of August 2017. We’ve seen certification for 3 different SKU’s of lenses made in Malaysia, which has given us some pause.

We’re told by a great source that a “series” of three “high end” lenses is coming in 2017 and they assumed it was the three lenses listed in the certification. Now we’re not so sure if that’s the case strickly because of the manufacturing country. To our knowledge, all “high end” lenses by Canon are made in Japan.

I guess this is a long way of saying that we’re still confident a series of 3 lenses is coming, they may just not be coming with the EF 85mm f/1.4L IS. The lenses in question from the certification could possibly be 3 different colours for the upcoming Canon EOS M20 (name not confirmed).

At the time of writing this, we’re not sure what the “series” is, but there’s a chance we have 4 “high end” lenses coming and 3 lower end lenses which may not differ in specs outside of colour.

More to come as we learn more.

Behind the Scenes at Canon’s New Burbank Technology and Support Center

By Canon Rumors | July 24, 2017 | Cinema EOS News

Canon recently opened its new technology and support center in Burbank, California. Select media outlets were invited to take a peak and DPReview was one of them.

From DPReview:

According to Elliot Peck, Canon Imaging and Technologies’ Executive Vice President, the project to build this new center started about a year ago when Canon realized that it was effectively out of space at its old Hollywood location. Canon designed a completely new facility from the ground up and took the opportunity to move to Burbank, at the heart of the filmmaking industry.

Part of the service facility is the lens room, where technicians can test and verify lens performance after repair. The room might be better described as a very wide hallway, stretching about 65 ft. (20m) in length. The extra distance allows technicians to mount lenses up to 600mm on a master body to check for optical alignment and resolution, meaning that all but a couple very specialized Canon lenses can be tested here. Take the full tour at DPReview

I’ve visited Canon’s Hollywood support center and came away impressed, but this new facility looks even better.
