Canon Tilt-Shift Updates [CR1]

Canon Tilt-Shift Updates [CR1]

New Tilt-Shift lenses?
I’ve received a few bits of information about new L tilt-shift lenses from Canon. We’ve heard there would be a direct replacement for the 45mm f/2.8 and it would be an L. We’ve heard that the 90mm f/2.8 would be replaced with a TS-E 135mm f/2.8L. This is not the first time we’ve heard that the 90 tilt-shift would get a longer focal length.

We also understand that Canon is redesigning the shift mechanism on the new tilt-shift lenses and that they won’t share the same design as the TS-E 17 f/4L and TS-E 24 f/3.5L II. I would gladly welcome a more reliable design to the shift unit, and hopefully Canon can make the new lenses a bit less prone to broken knobs and other issues that I have seen.

I asked if updates to the TS-E 17 f/4L and TS-E 24 f/3.5L II were likely if a new design is seen as more reliable and I was told it would be unlikely beyond some stealth updates. Design changes can be implemented in lenses over the years they’re in production.

Official: Lee Filter Solution for the Canon TS-E 17 f/4L

Official: Lee Filter Solution for the Canon TS-E 17 f/4L

From Lee Filters
As previously mentioned, Lee Filters has officially announced a filter ring adaptor that works with the Canon TS-E 17mm f/4L lens. This adaptor allows you to tap into the 100mm (or 105mm polarizer) filter system that Lee offers.

From Lee Filters
“This new ring will adapt the Foundation kit filter holder to fit the Canon 17mm TS-E lens and will allow more than half of the total amount of movement that is normally possible with this lens before vignetting – we feel that this is adequate for most uses and using the smaller 100mm system will allow the use of popular 100mm filters such as the Big Stopper and Proglass range. You can even use the 105mm polariser if you allow for a small amount of cutoff at the corners.

It will be priced at £78.00.

New Tilt-Shift Lenses in the Wild [CR2]

New Tilt-Shift Lenses in the Wild [CR2]

New Tilt-shifts on the horizon?
We’ve received reports that new tilt-shift lenses are being tested. The 45mm and 90mm have both been on the replacement clock for some time now, basically since the 17mm and 24mm tilt-shift lenses were released.

We’re told that the new lenses are scheduled to appear in early 2014 with a possible announcement shortly have Christmas.

A separate person has suggested a macro tilt-shift lens could also be on the distant horizon.
