A translation which translates to….???
Canon will soon have 1D4 pre-production units in “photographers of news agencies” hands for testing, with an announcement in Aug.
babelfish:
“One confirms that Canon will provide shortly, to photographers of news agencies, /s modelo/s again professional units face to its testeo ” beta”. The announcements could be for half-full of August.”
The spanish language from the original post (copied below) from DSLR Magazine translates roughly to “It is confirmed that Canon will provide a limited number of units of new professional models to test in ‘beta.’ Announcements would be possible for the middle of August.”
Se confirma que Canon proporcionará en breve, a fotógrafos de agencias de prensa, unidades de nuevo/s modelo/s profesionales cara a su testeo “beta”. Los anuncios podrÃÂÂan ser para mediados de agosto.
Wonder if this dslr will be all things to rich-enough people? In other words high dynamic range, low low noise (very low noise characteristics up to iso 6400) meticulous medium format detail (30+ mp), and fast shutter burst (6+ fps). I’d love to see a 3.5in lcd to boot. Truth is it’ll be nothing without some very special new glass packed with resolving power to accompany its launch. New primes (35mm 1.4II, 50 1.2II, and 300mm 2.8 IS II) and a 20-70 2.8 IS II) please.
Usually news agencies do count as “rich-enough people”.
Wow… This is great news for me :)
Still going strong with my 1DII because the 1DIII didnt offer enough for what I do.
But… nearly 5 years have passed since my 1DII so it will be time to change in the autumn :D
I’m happy.
C
Seriously great news. If it’s full frame :) Sure, throw in the dynamically cropable sensor, give the camera enough megapixels (16-21 range) and I’m all over it. Still shooting with a 1Ds Mark II – don’t need too many more mps, just want full frame.
it will have 1080 24p cropped to 720p but magnified by 1.6 cuz canon no longer will make 1.3 crop which is the new 1152p video standard
Apparently the camera will be released this Autumn, but the focussing system is due to be ready towards the end of next year. (*!!* Ducks *!!*)
lol… Seriously, I doubt they would make the same mistake twice. Or at least the mistake will be “less big” :P
Not a chance Canon will release a pro camera with a 1.6 crop. This is still a news camera as well as a sporting body and 1.6 just doesn’t cut it for news needs.
you guys are fuuny ha ha ha
Just a question, how do we know that the author is talking about the 1D Mark?
Whoops, thought we were talking about 1Ds. 1D is a different story. 16-21mpx, 10-15 fps, big screen, 300 2.8 IS II, 400 2.8 IS II. Built-in geo-tagging. Movie mode not necessary.
I agree. If Canon puts out another pro body with the AF issues… it won’t go well for them. I think they are probably going to get this one right. It will probably be their best ever. We shall see…
yeah, I was thinking the same thing…
1D or 1Ds???
The text is in Spaniard Spanish, so the correct translation is:
It is confirmed that Canon will soon provide to news agency photographers; new professional model(s) unit(s) for beta testing. The announcements could be for middle August.
So, in reality, there is no specification if they’re talking about 1D or 1Ds since in Spain they use the “/s” as in English is use the “(s)” stating singular OR plural (i.e. “bring your camera(s). )
Now, when “anuncio” (which could be translated as news, advertisement or announcements) is written after some sort of information, it shall be taken as announcements; but… this is not totally correct Spanish for news:
this writing is very vague; giving the idea that in the middle of August could be only the announcement of the new model(s) to be given or the announcement to which model(s) will be given or an advertising of the new model(s).
Really hope new 1D is Full Frame. I want a Full Frame Canon Pro Body, but cant afford 1Ds.
Its a PJ camera…movie mode is essential!
As for news agencies being rich…have you not seen the state of the industry?
Good thing I’ve been saving up, I smell camera body number too, hopefully FF, maybe some dynamic crop too. =P
It has to be FF, if not Nikon will win. As well hoping this time there’s no AF problem anymore.
I don’t want FF, for sport FF sucks, where is the reach ?
hummm
ok fine !!! everybody know there will be a new pro DSLR in a near future !!!
What we want to know is when it will be release and what are the specs !!!
Get 50D or Nikon D300 then
Buy a proper lens with real bokeh
Hmmm, maybe you’re right. I’m a fan of the short movies proliferating on major news-wire and paper sites. It speaks to reason that we’d see more of this with a V-DSLR in a capable photo-journalist’s hands. One More Try:
full frame sensor (a different model will be created for wildlife photogs with a 1.3x or 1.6x crop sensor)
16-21 mpx
10-15 fps
1080p movie mode at 30 and 24 fps
geo-tagging
3.5 in. oled screen
and the following welcomed glass
35 1.2, 300 2.8 IS II, 400 2.8 IS II
and new lenses via firmware update
Depends on the sport. Surfing is very different shooting than Basketball.
Good lord. You object to 1.6 crop on a pro body but not that ridiculous 1152p idea?
Fair enough. unfortunately the surfing market is small, (I actually find it makes some of the best images, though). 600/4 should be decently close some of the time, and a 1.4x can help a lot. though the light loss….
ok
buy a proper lens for football and basketball, hope it has 1.3x dynamic crop for everyone else.
lol
professional cameras are not and should not be within the reach of amatuers. too many wannabe’s out there “looking like” press photographers.
why don’t you there mr. amateur? those of us in the press that make our living off of the cameras you fan-boys wet-dream about know what we need and why we need it. it’s not for you to ask or question so shut up and be happy with your consumer gear. when you are making images that make the front page of papers and make history, then you are entitled to voice your opinion with the rest of us newsmakers, until then, your opinion don’t count.
Sign me up
I respectfully disagree. Some of the best photographers I know are amateurs, and all the Pro’s I know started as amateurs, who had enough skill and the right equipment to start bagging jobs, and then become pro.
I did some stuff with the UK Beijing gold medal swimmers with 2 1D’s for stills and a 5D and Z1 for video. Lets just say it would have much easier with just the 2 cameras and, despite the 5D’s wobbly footage, it looked a million times better than the Z1.
Its just becoming more and more necessary for us to do video as well as stills. Even though we don’t get paid anymore for it…
Beta in May, release in August?
They are brave. No one has such a short beta timeline. My money´s on a year end or 2010 release
What do I know, or care, about video? I’m a PHOTOGRAPHER :)
Welcome to the 21st century where digital video is a rapid series of stills, where some DSLR’s in “still photo” mode can shoot 10 frames per second that is darn close to full motion video speeds, where web pages are no longer static HTML, and where photographers have more options for creativity than ever before.
Yep, and I hear Canon is delaying new releases, particularly absent was an expected tapeless replacement of their aging HDV video line at NAB, also the announced delay in building Canon’s new manufacturing plant, due to the slow economy. So 2010 sounds more likly to me as well.
This sounds right. You should be getting paid for the video though.
Nicely said. I will add that a GOOD pro is not threatened by all the “amatures” with DSLR’s as a pro should be getting paid for their expertise not for holding a pro camera in front of people just to look like a pro ;)
I like the new Redrock microShoulderMount for DSLR video. I plan to get something like that once I buy a DSLR with video to get rid of the wobble and make it handle more like a camcorder at times, especially if you’re using bigger lenses like a 28-300, 70-200 2.8 or even a 100-400.
Please send a link to your images Richard. I’m sorry but press photography is not what it used to be.
Please post your link:
Richard won’t post it because he’s a little pussy.
Nothing wrong with anal stimulation. Try using a pearl necklace.
why in this era of 1600 normal ISO would you want a 1.2 35?
The 50 and the 85 consistently have people crying about front focus and slow focus with the former being usually a case of UE (user error) from not realizing that only an inch or so of the image will be in focus and the latter being a result of the giant pieces of glass needed to get to those lenses to focus…
Instead of faster apertures I’d prefer to see them focus on making the 1.4’s and other fast lenses as sharp as possible wide open so that when I shoot at 1.4 the pic is razor sharp
i understand your thought process but it’s been said a hundred times. This is a PRO camera designed to be used by PROS and to meet the needs of those hiring PROS. In the internet news era where people like their news fed in snippets that means that the camera has to have video.
if you want the best DR and high pixel counts and amazing DOF for being a “PHOTOGRAPHER” invest in a Hasselblad or Leica.
Or how bout this – just don’t use the video…it’s not taking away from the camera in any way
the answer to “where is the reach?” is to buy a longer lens or a tele extender…
Real pros for years had to shoot the 400 2.8 rather than 300 2.8 etc…
Most pro’s would concede that cleaner images at higher iso’s with enough pixels to crop down would be preferable to the 1.3 in body factor…at least i would.
ha ha ha dont use the video feature yes. he probably only shoot on program mode anyhow
Silly poster… Perhaps you should try a little old thing called R-E-A-D-I-N-G. Perhaps then you will see that I did not disparage video, simply say that I didn’t know enough about it to comment on the specs listed by a previous poster. As a photographer making a decent enough living I have to remind you people that their are those out their who use pro cameras who don’t shoot news. I shoot portrats, weddings, events and sports. Do I regret the addition of video to the cameras? Of course not. Might I play with it? Sure, why not. Do I need it? Not a bit. Not yet at least. Medium format cameras are great for studio and landscape shooters, but not good for others. You guys gotta get off your little judgemental high horses and realize that different buisness models allow for different camera requirements and that a GOOD photographer can still make a living shooting stills.
Personally I’d love a pro 1.6 body in addition to FF to make my 400 2.8 into a 640 2.8 – teleconverters suck, so does relying on post cropping. 1.3 is useless, not enough of a magnification on the tele end and too much magnification on the wide end.
From high on my horse, or maybe just high…I judge and declare the era of still photography dead and over!
So there.
Don’t mind me. I’m an image making whore who does not care if my clients want still or motion or what format (position)it ends up in.
lol
personally I prefer the 1.3x when using super-tele’s because it does a better job of preserving the bokeh, though I do understand the need of a longer crop for wildlife, etc…
And pros should be able to nail shots
with a 4 year old entry level body…
but having top qualiy gear can make life easier.
I’d like to see:
-15mp +-
-FF/crop abilitys
-movie mode
-gps built in
-RF flash with 2way com with flash,
and that flash can control/relay
instructions to the slaves(rf or ir)
-WiFi ‘N’
-Bluetooth to connect to cell and send pics
-touchscreen would be cool
-oled also cool
-attach notes to pics
-I don’t think fps will improve much, unless they do away with the mirror
Wildlife is what I like it for.
do you mean updating lens firmware
through the body like Oly does with their Zuko lens?
Absolutely a pro can nail a shot with an entry level body. The issue is more about toughness. When you’re getting paid you can’t afford your equipment to break on you during a shoot.
No, I mean sprout a new lens on the body via firmware or change your f 4.0 into a 2.8
sarcasm re: all the whining about added features that “should” be done via firmware updates
What about the 2010 Olympics?
they’d have to be in pro hands early enough to fix any issues via firmware
Dunno. I hope so. But companies have to cut back somewhere if they’re posting losses. What I heard was about new Canon prosumer video cameras being delayed, and NAB seems to have confirmed it given they did not annouce them there even though Panasonic and JVC are leaping ahead of them in that department.
Nicely said David and J-man.
regarding specs:
I’m hoping for a pellicle mirror AF system to allow increased framerate.
I think some of your specs are a little unrealistic, like built in gps and bluetooth, WiFi I could see happenning though.
Do you really want a touch screen though? The menu layout is so fast as it is, I just see a touch screen as a hazard. OLED would be nice, but might be next gen instead of this one…
According to Paul Pope (the most reliable source in DPReview), it will have a new AF sensor design and imaging sensor. Ok, ok… that’s totally expected.
I hope sensor is non-bayer / Foveon-like.
If it had a Full Frame sensor with a 1.3 crop funtion and maybe a 1.6 crop funtion as well, that would be so handy. Best of both worlds!!
You have to be by far the most arrogant person I’ve come across in a very long time. Both comments you made on this page clearly demonstrate how out of touch and narrow minded you are.
You don’t make history, you take pictures of people who make history. So don’t get a big head over nothing. Your just a messenger here. You are about a dime a dozen.
It’s not the camera that makes the photographer but the photographer that takes the pictures that makes the camera.
So, enjoy your 1Ds or 1D or whatever camera you have and I’ll be sure to enjoy my 400d.
