EOS-1D in 2009
From a pretty reliable source, I'm told to expect a new 1D announcement in the August/September timeframe. The camera will ship in limited quantities by October 2009.

I wasn't given any info on specs, just that it's coming.

New lenses?
Yes, expect a couple of updates to big white ones.

Do not expect any consumer grade lenses this time around.

  1. i couldn’t disagree with you more.

I’m a pj, and pretty much everyone i know wants the new 1D to be full frame. And there are many times where sports togs (i shoots sport too) need fps and a proper wide angle. 16mm and 1.3x sometimes isn’t wide enough.

And the last thing we want is more mega pixels. High iso performance is what we want! Keep it less than 15mp and have amazing low light performance.

  2. Well, it just goes to show you that there is no one-size-fits-all camera that Canon could come out with. I’m a bird photographer who values the 1/3 crop and also wants more pixels. 10.1 is OK for many purposes, but 15-20 would be better and would be easier to market to some segments (e.g. calendars). I wouldn’t buy a camera that couldn’t autofocus my 600+2x or 800+1.4x. If I could, I would even ask for more, such as all AF points being available at f8 and the center point being usable at f11 for the 800+2x. I think on terms of how far away can I be to a small songbird to get x amount of pixels on the subject without having to crop much. I bang my cameras around, so ruggedness is a top priority and well as frame rate and lack of shutter lag. I consider something like the 5D to be worthless for my uses.
