2000D
I’m told the 2000D will have the articulating screen that has been sometimes rumored to be a feature of the 60D.
60D
A few features sent in today. Could be crazy.
– DIGIC V
– A New Liveview/EOS Movie AF system that is much faster than what is currently available.
– Some kind of a rotating grip for making video shooting easier.
No idea what to make of this stuff, it’s the first I’ve heard of any of it.

This is what I’ve been hoping to see. That’s the 60D I want.
Rotating grip???
I have no idea, it was poorly described.
I just posted it before it appeared anywhere else.
Faster AF is great, but don’t forget accuracy
Was there more to the description?
Now this 60D sounds more like what I expected. Just hope the AF pts are increased and the wt. is down. Then, it’s done deal.
Oh the AGONY!!!! come on Canon.. give us a break here and say it already…. I’m buying a 7D soon but these rumors are killing me to see what else you are coming up with.
He just made them up.
Kung-Fu Battle Grip!
Why don’t canon stop this nonsense and really start the real issues that are facing photographers like Nikon did ?
Sometimes, I really wish that I was a Nikon user. Canon does have great products but I don’t see them move forward anytime soon in the future.
It’ll be a good idea to turn the 2000D into a mirrorless camera. :)
“Some kind of a rotating grip for making video shooting easier”
Another “nice” feature from marketing. An absoluttely new feature which all photographers always dreamed of. The photographens just were SO stupid not to understand that all they needed for photography is a pro grade video camera for their stills! :)
You can move to Nikon.
Still nothing on the 1DS MKIV and 5D MKIII. This is what I’m waiting for.
i heard that the 5d3 wont be for another year.
Oddly enough both rumours are believable. The rotating grip might be a real killer feature for those shooting video but it could detract from 5/7D sales but it still makes MUCH more sense than a sensor optimized for video.
Sadly I can’t because:
1) I hate Nikon. Although I acknowledge that what they did with their models is right, Cameras bodies are not everything. Canon is still a better supporting company than Nikon at least in my region.
2) It would be very costly for me to shift … Nikon’s 400mm F2.8, 300mm F2.8, 70-200mm VR 2.8, 12-24, D3s and D3x are not exactly something cheap.
3) Nikon doesn’t cover my requirements as good as Canon does.
Having said that, Canon’s current approach of cramming more pixels, concentrating on video, and forgetting about almost everything else is something I don’t like.
Google: Pentax Optio MX4….
This is what you just described, I would never buy a camera based on the features you have been making up for the last few weeks. Blah. Just like no one bought this Pentax POS.
I have thousands invested in Canon and would hate to see it go down that road…Here is too hoping it won’t turn out like that! *Fist pump to the air*
definitely not the camera for you, but will probably open up a new demographic to increase profits for canon. i can see the grip rotating 90 degrees so it’s horizontally orientated like traditional video cameras. not a feature i’m interested in either, but someone out there wants it.
I don’t care which model gets the tilting screen, just put it in one and I’ll buy it. I guess it would make more sense on a 2000D than 60D though.
But, ideally that would come with the faster LV AF to be more usable. Look at what Olympus did with the E-P1 AF. At launch an AF cycle took up to a second. After many firmware revisions over a year or so, now it’s practically as fast as one-shot phase. Ok, Panasonic had that from the start, but the point is that improvement could be made.
As far as I know, the “rotating grip” probably refers to a ‘follow-focus’ implementation right on the camera itself to aid in video focussing control.
As for tilt screen, info seems to point to the ‘video-centric’ model having a tilt screen. I have no idea which camera model that is supposed to be.
WE called it.
hey canon! theres a reason why its called a “DSLR Camera”! stop your video nonsense and focus on improving your so called still cameras.
if i knew that this is the path canon is going to take years back then I would have chosen nikon back then. not to mention what more would canon introduce to their dslr cameras aka video cameras in the coming years.
sadly its very expensive to shift with all the investments i made with canon. and i just hate nikon products. but who knows what the future may bring. as i observed, canon is focused in video rather than stills.
Exactly. With a faster movie AF and digic 5, this thing will beat the 550d/7d in both stills and video. And still have a solid body and a good price!
I still cannot imagine this “grip” thing..
They will make the 60D’s videos even softer than the 7D’s…
You haven’t seen the camera, you don’t know its features, you know absolutely NOTHING about and you criticize it already.. your ignorance and arrogance is truly amazing.
How so? If anything, it should be sharper with the new processor, since it might have had improvements on video over the other dslr models
Dear Canon,
It is too late to intoduce the 60d, I was sick of waiting for it, I bought the 7d.
So it is time to bring out something more interesting, noone care about 60d.
I wonder what sensor a 2000D would have?
Anyway, I might be interested in it for astrophotography. An articulated screen would be great when the camera is on the back of a telescope pointing upwards… at the moment I grovel on the ground to see the screen. Small and light are both useful assets too.
Canon will be very sad to hear you bought their 7d, and won’t be buying their 60d.
Yeah, you really showed them! Take *that* Canon!
Rotating grip sounds odd. Possibly a lot of rubbish.
RE: An articulated screen would be great when the camera is on the back of a telescope pointing upwards… at the moment I grovel on the ground to see the screen.
Two words and a letter: Angle Finder C. Something to consider, at least, instead of undignified groveling… ;)
Crappy answer, you compare your wishfull 60D with Nikon’s D3x?
That I find strange, so probably you also won’t have 400mm f2.8 and 300mm f2.8 lens either.
You haven’t heard anything, you just expect this to be.
However let’s say that 60D will be announced. Then chances do increase that 5D3 might hit the streets later this year.
Otherwise Canon would have announced 60D for Photokina.
Foveon 32MP for the incredible price of 278 US dollars….
Who cares about 2000D here anyways?
On the other hand, you haven’t seen him mention the 60D and yet you criticize him already. I don’t know who’s the ignorant and/or arrogant one here :]
Think about a grip AND viewfinder display that can be rotated against the sensor unit (SU)/lens.
We have seen that from other manufacturers in the compact cam market.
Or a Live View can do the job sometimes as well, I use it for macro with manual focus and it’s very nice to have this feature, although I hated it first and thought it has no place on SLR camera, now I’m glad for it :)
Increase? The 1Ds Mk 4 and a new entry level Rebel are on the horizon as well, so the release of a 60D would possibly push the 5D Mk 3 even further. They won’t be releasing another 4 cameras this year, wouldn’t you agree?
Video is something like a “waste product” of a digital camera.
For me video is an OPTION and if Canon builds still cameras with that option AND this option doesn’t degrade the still photo capabilities – why not?
I always dreamed about trying to make a short movie – I need ultrawide and shallow depth of field. Much tooo expensive with professional video gear (100 000 $). And I don’t want to lug around one set of photo systems and one set of video systems.
S/he’s already using Live View (“I grovel on the ground to see the screen,” – not ‘see through the VF’) and it’s clearly not doing the trick for a telescope-mounted camera.
yeah i cant see that happen in a dslr theres to much hardware in that body to make drastic changes.
the digic v makes sense they all get upgraded eventualy. the new LF focus is verry possible also some other brands have a new AF system for life view and point and shoots also so the technique excists and with the digic v combined ti makes even more sense.
new video focus is verry possible also as its still a young technique needing a lot of tweaks and improvements.
but the grpt seems rubbish to me i cant see how thats possible in a dslr body.
I’d rather Canon shifted some of it’s resources from developing bodies to developing lenses.
Let Canon delay the 60D till kingdom comes, and come up with an EF-S 30mm prime, fisheyes, etc.
Sounds like an idea, a good 2000D could take a 14MP sensor and be mirrorless for Video AF. Even with an artic screen. That sounds possible.
It’s becoming increasing clear that you are posting anything on your website to drum up more visits. Your traffic is getting higher I’m sure, but I think you are losing credibility.
The 60D needs a new sensor as the 18MP one has been done to death in the 7D and 550D, it will be almost a year old. The 60D needs to be clever and offer quality high ISO images and from a smart camera that also does video. GPS is novel but generally unused, i’d rather have a wifi interface to my flash/phone/router/external GPS unit if required. It better than Canon sell usefull external accessories than chipped battery packs.
so now because YOU bought a 7D no one cares about 60D? that is a fine line of reasoning
Actually, DSLR stands for “Digital Single Lens Reflex Camera”. I don’t see any reason why that name should mean it only shoots stills. We live in a digital age and video is everywhere. I definitely think Canon is heading in the right direction. Also, Nikon and Pentax both include HD video on their cameras, so why are you so sad you chose Canon? Within 6 months there won’t be a credible new model DSLR on the market without HD video. 60d sounds very interesting to me. I may sell my 7d when it comes out if 60d is really better for video and comparable on stills. 5d II and a 60d would be a very useful combo.
do you take every emails from every one as an hint on the 60d or any Canon stuff ???
Angle finder C is good for what it does, but the stars are usually too faint to see through the viewfinder. Usually live view is used at 10x for focusing and the screen is used for general chimping (again, zoomed in).
Angle finder C with an electronic viewfinder might work :)
But the articulated screen would be ideal, especially if it was as good as the 50D screen.
Tomorrow i said… 60d with something and here put all… all people her include mi are potatoes.
From Spain!
http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/10/sony-skips-over-alpha-line-uses-canon-dslr-for-cyber-shot-press/
I just read over at engadget that sony used canon cameras to take their pictures…. haha
The 60D may be part the announcement of tomorrow where the 1DS MKIV will most probably be announced in August to be visible for Photokina in September. I do agree the 5D MKIII is for next year and at the same time, we hear about a possible 3D. Any info?
Canon will need a new cam to compete against pany’s forthcoming GH2 on cost and features so a 60D could be it. Would make sense to announce it before the GH2 as well to steal its thunder.
Here’s a wild though, Bluetooth 3.0, that’s a feature no camera has ever had before…
i dont think so
You actually believe this stuff? Its just made up by kids, and already you are complaining about something that doesn’t exist.
60D has to compete with Nikon’s D90 replacement. They don’t want to be caught flat footed again. 60D will be quite interesting, be assured. Remember how surprised many were at the 7D ? Even the T2i was good..with the 7D’s IQ and new lcd screen.
Follow focus? For manual focus support? That would not make sense in a camera which first intention is too shot stills rather than video…
Maybe Canon’s APS-C Camcorder will have such a thing…
Agree. On a DSLR, video is like junk food. Junk food should not spoil your dinner – still photos.
Nikon will never go full retard by going 18mp on their aps-c models. So IQ wise, Nikon has already won. Video-wise, canon still has the lead, but nikon might have some surprises..
one up on this one. i have dreamed theat the 1Ds IV will be announced for this years photokina and the 5D III next year
What for? Bluetooth is way too slow for transfering images. WIFI makes much more sense.
I’d rather like to see a GPS grip.
lenses with real MF abilities, so that follow focus would become easy again
Nikon will most likely increase the pixel density on their DX sensors when they have the opportunity, and they have been hinting that several times. When SONY has one ready, be sure to see Nikon implement it.
made me LOL, thanks for the link
Welcome to the Internet.
Is that a shot at me?
You make me moist!
60D…will it really be the forerunner for 5DIII? as someone posted?
How much did original 5D decrease in price around the time 5DII was TBA?
Or will Canon decorate Christmas with 1DsIV?
Doesn’t matter to me anyway, still saving up for an FF body these next years…
5DIII
I kind of wish Canon would focus more on a Still-DSLR. I know Video is a huge feature for a lot of people but I want a great quality Still Camera. I personally don’t have a need for video. I’m still shooting with my 40D. I was thinking of upgrading to the 7D but wanted to go FF. And from what people are telling me or from the rumor mill, the 5D Mark III should be out next year. My 40D has been doing its job so I’ll just wait and see what comes around but I rather have better high ISO performance, a more accurate AF system, 21mp (24 or 26 at most but not badly needed) and the wireless flash transmitter would be lovely. I’m not dogging anyone who loves and wants better quality video in a still, but I would rather have a DSLR that’s dedicated soley to still.
5D is as low as 1700€ at the time here
As long as they keep the lines separate i’m fine so maybe keep the 7d focused on stills & gear the 60D towards the video market. I do love having the large sensor for video as it helps me in low light so i’d be happy if they improve video, but I understand the true photographers who don’t need video
i have been trying to visualize this but if you turned the camera grip wouldn’t the lens be facing down? or you would not see the lcd any better…this sounds ridonculous

I think it sounds like the 5D Mark II is the camera for you.
To address the general attitude that video is ruining Canon’s line of still cameras, I must say I just don’t see it that way. So far the inclusion of video in Canon’s DSLR cameras has entailed no compromise to Canon’s still camera features.
I just want the darn thing to be announced! I’ll probably still get a 50D but knowing my luck, I’d get the 50D then the 60D would be announced and the price for the 50D would drop. I’m a college student minoring in photography so cost is a BIG deal for me as well as how long the camera will last. I hope the announcement comes soon.
Maybe the 2000 Will have this little cartridge you put in the back of the camera that will only allow you to take 12, 24 or 36 images then you have to take the cartidge into a specialty facility where they will use the latest in technology to turn the data into pictures… Oh wait, I’m going the wrong direction aren’t I???
Not a bad idea… each cartridge could include its own sensor so you could choose the trade off between sensitivity, resolution and noise. You might be on to something!
Great idea. The cartridges could be designated using a standard for sensitivity. For example, a 400 cartridge would be one f stop faster than a 200 cartridge.
It would even be cooler if they optimized the cartridges for color and black and white.
On to something…almost like the Ricoh GXR…
Yep. I could see the D700 replacement having some enhanced video features.
LOL guys, how hot is it over there in your place? we had about 32 °C yesterday…so…is this talk about cartridges due to this phenomenom? ;-)
A rotating grip (if it exists) introduce 2 problems:
1) weather sealing
2) durability of the electronic components/links between the rotating part and the camera body
I had a Nikon SQ years ago, Nikon gave to the SQ a similar funcionality (square body, 2 parts, rotating), but the camera has gone before 2 years…
If Canon is introducing a similar concept, i hope they did it better.
The new LiveViewAF could be something like the Sony A550 LiveViewAF (that doesn’t record movies)
Well, I am no videographer either. So, I’ll enjoy the day reading the specs of a 5DIII whenever it will be announced. I am aiming at low light, non flash high iso photography in good quality…so that’s why I am saving up to go FF within the next years…meanwhile my 30D does the job…
Maybe a built in portrait grip, but who shoots video in vertical? I would LOVE and integrated grip in the new 3D, assuming there is a new 3D, which isn’t safe to assume.
Yeah, and having that A-Hole Ashton Kutcher in their commercials is enough to stay away from Nikon.
I can confirm the grip.
I haven’t seen the market-ready grip, but the R&D grip is split hinged horizontally into 2 sections with the buttons(af, shutter) on the bottom section just like the existing grips.
The difference is.. When released, the top section(with batteries) stays attached to the camera, while the bottom section rotates 90 degrees and slides to the center to create a “T” with the buttons now on the top of the new vertical handle. I hope I explained it right.
It will make a ‘steadicam’ type of grip for video and live view with the ability to start/stop video and fire the shutter
+1
i dont mind having a video feature, i wont use it anyway. but it seems canon is focusing more on video upgrades rather than improving the essential features of a camera. there will always be a trade off when optimizing one functionality over the other. and besides no matter how much they upgrade its video features, the form factor will always be problem, the body is just not designed for video purposes.
Yuck. Maybe I won’t be getting a 3D – I want a CAMERA.
I think he was being sarcastic :-P
Only 1.3X crop factor may move me. We have T2i and 7D already, why bother to have a model standing in between?
I don’t mind to have a new model maintaining 18MP with a bigger sensor. This making sense.
It’s the 2000D that would have a side-hinged screen. 60D would have a fixed screen but would have a right-hand grip that can rotate 90° backward so that the cam can be held like a camcorder during Live View and EOS Movie mode. DigicV enables ultra-fast “hybrid AF” by using 2-stage AF (phase detect for gross defocus + contrast-detect AF as fine-tuning in front/behind the FP) during LV & EOS Movie mode.
Who said I want a 60D? or even comparing the 60D or D3X ??
LOL, So True!
Who said I’m talking about the 60D ???
You are right, I might be over-reacting over these so called “rumors”. Maybe I’m frustrated because Since 2007 every Canon release did not match my expectations.
I love my Canon gear. But Sometimes, I look at the Nikon said and say “Boy, those guys are lucky!”.
i dont agree but i agree the 18 mp sensor is great still so would be good but as im waiting for the 60d myself i wouldnt mind a new sensor with even better noise preformance :)
Shrug… one 30MB RAW image would take 10 seconds with bluetooth 3.0. Not extremely fast, but definitely usable.
802.11n at 5 GHz band would shrink that time to about 2-4 seconds. Close range, no interference (assuming used channel is 100% free). Power usage would drain DSLR battery pretty fast, though.
Canon replaced the 5d only when the rebel matched it’s resolution.
So, you should wait until T3i get released first! :p
i rather come here reading something plausible then coming here day after day with nothing to read at all.
And I love your horrid grammar and new world spelling of “lemons”.
