London, 20 October 2009 – Canon today announces that it is currently developing a firmware update to the EOS 5D Mark II to enable the recording of high definition 1080p video at 24 and 25fps. The decision to develop new firmware to support these features has been taken following feedback received from cinematographers and photographers.

If you’re happy with this in your footage:
Then bless you my friend, enjoy your purchase! Sorry you got a bunch of sand in your ‘gina about my post. I’m just tired of people thinking this vdslr is the second coming of christ, when they have very real problems that need to be addressed – before going into production. But for awesome low-light cat videos on vimeo – knock yourself out!
All i’m hoping for in a new firmware release is to allow customization of the dials (like the 7D) Why they can’t keep the aperture dial consistently in one location? switching dials among different shooting modes drives me nuts… i use Aperture-priority in stills and M in video. It’s so inconvenient to switch dials…
Are you sure the 2 processor inside the 7D are only for video capabilities? I have read it was in big part for the 8fps shooting, but I don’t know much about technologie… Anyway, having both, I prefer the movie I get with the 5D, the dynamic range on the 7D don’t seem to be as good to me…
Same here – no more toys for bigboys:)
