“What about canon software? Its about time they release a bundle that is upgradeable by the click of a button like all other softwares. Who is not sick of looking through the website for the correct update. come on lets make this happen!!”

DXO Sensor Testing
A reader (our new Nikon guy!) has sent in some impressions about DXO's sensor testing and what is inside Nikon & Sony cameras.

“Now check the D3 (D700) sensor and the Sony A900. Close enough in performance to be identical. D3 (D700) and A900 use the same sensor but use different processing, hence the insignificant difference. How can a 12MP and a 24MP have identical performance? Hmm, if the sensors used in the cameras were identical then the performance would be identical. The D3X uses the same Sony 24MP FF sensor as the D3 and when DXO gets a D3X the test result will be the same. D3 = A900 = D3X. How have your search results gone for a Sony 12MP FF Cmos Sensor?”
To answer your question, I've found nothing about a FF 12mp Sony Sensor. I keep hearing from various sources that Sony is manufacturing Nikon designed sensors. I'm not sure if I'm fully behind the idea that a Sony sensor factory is producing stuff that Sony can't use. That just isn't a very Sony thing to do. :)

If you want a real world review, I would happy to do something more useful than that. He’s coming from a 20D so doe-eyed is one thing that comes to mind. The other is that 25,600 ISO is a joke. Even the B&W example he posts is awful. Yes B&W film could do that ISO and it wouldn’t have all that banding in a 6 inch screen size image that the 5DII has.
The 5DII is a great camera. I have compared mine to my Leaf Aptus 22 and it’s becoming harder to justify keeping the Leaf with the slower workflow, built in live view on the 5DII (costs an extra $1000 from Leaf), better AF on 5DII and so much more. That’s where inexpensive high res DSLRs have come.

DXO does not rate them anywhere near identical. The D3 has a ISO rating of 2290 versus Sony 1431. I don’t see how anyone could call this nearly identical.
As far as the other specs, the Canon sensors have similar parameters as well.

As for Film with ISO 25600, please publish one. That will be more convincing.
Yes, 5D Mark II ISO 25600 is bad, no one says it isn’t and the reviewer says so, so there is no need to trash his work. DPR is the place for those who like to trash others work.
JS, good to hear that in your view the 5D2 compares favourably to a Leaf. Would be happy to hear a fuller comparison from you.
