It’s probably a typo
Appears B&H is accepting orders on underwater housings for the 60D!

Don’t shoot the messenger, the rumor world is painfully slow at the moment.

They’re listed on Nimar’s site too http://www.nimar.it/custodie_reflex_digitali_eng.htm so I don’t think it’s a B&H typo. Maybe a Nimar typo though.
Of course that raises the question is it for the EOS D60 or for an upcoming Canon camera that’s not been announced yet. Not that it tells us anything useful, to assume the 50D won’t be replaced eventually is foolish.
Funny thing is that’s a Nikon camera inside the casing, if you look close enough :)
True or not, that casing is rather cool, but also pricy as hell. It would cost more than the body of the 60D it self :)
I noticed that too, the red triangle
I guess there must be some truth in it, or else there are two major typos to be made, as the model number is NIUHC60D, emphasising the fact that it also says “60D”
The model number (NIUHC60D – emphasis on first 2 letters) and the camera inside the casing (which has the Nikon red stripe) gives me the ideea that it is for a d60 and not a 60d.
Yep. It looks like a nikon in there.
NIUH60D
NI = NImar
U = Underwater
H = Housing
60D = canon
1229$ ?!
Dose that come with a camera inside???
Or around the same price. :)
LOL! I’m guessing some CR readers must be new to underwater photography; dSLR housings that cost more than the camera body are de rigueur. And that’s just to start; deeper depth ratings = more $$$. Also, you are usually buying the housing separately, not including the lens ports (which have to be sized according to the lens being used). The price of a good glass dome ports for wide angle U/W photography can run $800 or better. And strobes go for $250, $500, $1000 and up (and you’ll want two eventually!)…
This is why a lot of “dry land” dSLR shooters still use P&S cameras/housings for their U/W photos. Even then, the housing and P&S camera and strobe(s) can still set you back well over a grand or more (not including wide angle ports or close up (macro) adapters.
Just for fun, check out ReefPhoto.com; they specialize in this stuff! Or even the U/W section at B&H!
BTW, if you click on the actual B&H link and check out the gallery for this housing, you can see what looks like the stock Canon EF-S 18-55mm kit lens:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/images/multiple_images/item_images/IMG_94272.jpg
Scam!
I think B&H just used that pic as a placeholder… as the pics for almost all of their underwater housings are the same
I don’t think this is a typo… if u guys try searching the Nimar case for 50D, it exists as well..
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/621745-REG/Nimar_NI303D3000_UNDERWATER_HOUSING_f_CANON_EOS.html
Now.. how can they possibly have a typo for 50D case if the 50D case already existed?
Go to the Nimar website and you’ll notice there is no case for the 50D while there are cases for the 40D and the 60D. Nimar probably made a mistake in the manufacturer numbers, which carried onto the B&H website. B&H likely caught the mistake and corrected it by listing the case for the 50D, but never removed the listing for the 60D.
That, or the 60D is coming soon!
No wonder Nimar is listing a housing for the Canon 60D, try and read the description on that webpage, I wouldn’t call that a typo LOL. Quote:
“Not worried you if in water don’t see it the Housing Nimar there is!!!!!
Entirely transparent in Policarbonato the custody Nimar perfectly dresses again the photographic car assuring a correct operation in all of her parts and a sure watertight estate thin to an operational depth of .60mt.
The handle left -right are in endowment assure a stable and taken ergonomics giving the possibility to have well firm in water the housing, having to brought of hand all the principal commands.”
OK, Picture 1 is a Nikon, Picture 2 shows an EF-S Lens, and Picture 3 shows a 20D or 30D. I can’t understand how you could try to sell a product like this :) A side note, Don’t shop at B&H. Their prices went up the exact amount of the Canon rebates the day they came out. I waited for the sale, ordered from them, and they billed me for the item. They then e-mailed me the next day to tell me that the item was not in stock. Then they took FIVE days to return my money. Go to Adorama or Amazon for a seller that stands behind their service.
And the Nikon camera inside?
I don’t blame them. the 60d will most proparbly be the same as 50d with 18Mps, slightly better weather sealing and video. :P
picture 3 is a rebel it has cross pad, not wheel and you can clearly see the direct print button, sicne Nimar is smart enough not to have wasted a button on it.
or 15MP again (prays)
doesn’t mean it isn’t just a placeholder.
Zac: Thanks. I wasn’t sure. I have a 40D so I only noticed that the buttons by the LCD screen were to the left instead of under the LCD. Good Call.
typo…its too soon
Agree that UW photo gets expensive … fast.
I’ve been procrastinating on upgrading my ancient 35mm Nikonos V system to a housed dSLR for awhile. Here’s the basic cost breakdown, “then” (more original prices)and “now”:
35mm Nikonos V body (IIRC, $500)
** replaced by:
EOS 5D body ($2700)
+ “cheap” Ikelite housing ($1400)
(Note: a Nexus housing would be around $5K)
15mm Nikkor WA lens/OEM ($1400)
Nikkor 15mm viewfinder ($200)
** replaced by:
16-35mm f2/8 ($1400)
+ Ikelite 8″ diameter dome port ($400)
+ Ikelite dome port body for 8″ ($120)
Lighting:
Ikelite SS-200 head (IIRC, $900)
Ikelite SS-200 head (IIRC, $900)
NiCad Charger ($100)
Dual Strobe Arms w/tray ($300)
Dual Synch Cord ($150) or alternatives
** replaced by:
Ikelite DS-160 head ($800)
Ikelite DS-160 head ($800)
NiMH Smart Charger ($100)
dual Synch Cord ($150)
Ultra-Lite buoyant strobe arms ($400)
That’s the ballpark of the damage. Adding it up, the old legacy 35mm film Nikonos system is $4450, versus $8250 for a 5D-based system.
Economize by going to a 50D ($1500) with a 10-22 lens ($750) and your housed dSLR system is still at $6120 MSRP.
BTW, keep in mind that this a “One Lens” system. The housed system generally has a ~$200 “handicap” per additional lens you want to add (for ports).
FYI, I also went step down in size/power of the UW strobes. It saves $200, but more important to me is that it reduces size & weight of the system by 2.2 lbs (1kg).
Breaking all of this down into broad categories, for a proverbial 50D/60D, the $6K is roughly split into thirds: $2K for ‘camera w/lens’, $2K for housing w/port, and $2K for UW lighting.
And to upgrade to a FF 5D adds another “third”, to roughly $8K total system cost.
-hh
Probably a stock photo.
If Canon is stupid enough to do 18MP, then let them be. After even the overly diplomatic dpreview site had to conclude that in terms of high-ISO and DR the 50D was worse than the 40D, due mostly to high MP count, a further degrading of image quality would spell another disaster. Come to think of it, the Nikon D300 may enjoy another peaceful year of sales without too much trouble from the struggling xxD line from Canon.
I hope though that the 60D will stay at 15 MP or even (could I dare hoping?) revert to 10 or 12MP, and work hard on improving high-ISO and DR.
“I can’t understand how you could try to sell a product like this :)”
Because nobody else in the world has such great Policarbonato.
I can’t beleive nobody did it before me ! (not even the canonrumors owner…)
So guies, I simply called B&H customer service and they confirmed it is a tipo mistake.
Sorry…
PS: I think there is a slight difference between rumors and false/non verified info. A rumor can hardly be verified. But in this specific case, a simple call would have solved the question… To me, it is not a rumor but an artificial buzz to generate traffic on the site. Come on CanonRumors… we deserve better !
Here is another thing with 60D in the title, but I am 100% positive that it is a typo (should say D60).
Forgot to put the link…

I think it is common for typos like this to happen.
Did you call them to ask ???
This what happens when marketing take over. If some one saw you with a camera then the first question he may ask is How many megapixles it got. When i tell people that my 5d had 12Mp they always replay with “oh that is nothing, my xxxx camera is as small as my hand and still shoots at 14Mps”. This is sad, but this is the turth.
If I would have it my way I would of reduced the MP to 12, increase the FPS to 8 and put a better weather seal on it.
those are funny experiences. I was shooting with a 1D mkIII and someone came up and was like “let me guss, 16 megapixels” and they were quite shocked that it only had 10. then I demonstrated the 10fps and the world became slightly clearer to them
‘“oh that is nothing, my xxxx camera is as small as my hand and still shoots at 14Mps‒
That’s when I take my SLR and push the button and it instantly takes a shot. Their megapixels mean nothing when it takes a moment for the autofocus to work and they miss the shot. :)
“A side note, Don’t shop at B&H. Their prices went up the exact amount of the Canon rebates the day they came out. … Go to Adorama or Amazon for a seller that stands behind their service.”
I’m calling BS on this. Canon raised their lens prices, which meant that B&H, Adorama, and Amazon all had to raise their prices at some point.
I checked today; B&H and Adorama both have the *exact* same prices for all of the instant rebate lenses (they even have the same lenses in stock, both are only out of stock on the 50mm f/1.2 USM).
And lately Amazon has been the *worst*, they have been out of stock on most of the lenses with rebates and many others as well. They don’t even bother to list themselves as sellers right now for some fairly common lenses (100mm macro and neither of the 70-200mm f/4 lenses), and on other lenses where the the primary “Buy now” links are for their “advertising affiliates”, those prices are *significantly* higher than B&H and Adorama. If you didn’t know what the going rate was, it wouldn’t be hard to overpay for glass at Amazon. (Just for sh!ts and grins, look up the Amazon affiliates’ ticket-scalper pricing on the 5DMkII from DBROTH and Pavilion: http://www.amazon.com/Canon-EOS-5D-Mark-II/dp/B001G5ZTLS)
I use Amazon for lots of stuff, but I’d have to think twice about buying glass from them between them being perpetually “out of stock”, their week-long delay “black hole” for their free super-saver shipping, and the rip-off pricing of their “trusted” affiliates.
You’re right, Amazon and Adorama have raised their prices as well. I’ve actually found that the local photo stores (Washington DC) have been selling the Canon Lenses for the regular price minus the discount. This works out to be roughly the same since you have to pay sales tax, but at least I don’t have to wait for shipping. Also, I bought a 24-70 2.8L from NewEgg for $200 less than Adorama, BH, or Amazon had it on sale for. Their price is still cheaper as of today, not $200 cheaper, but still. I know Canon raised their prices, but it just seems dirty to wait until the rebates come out and then all these online retailers raise their prices the exact same amount. I purchased my 17-40 4L last November for $600 from Amazon and I got my 580EXII from Adorama in January for $340. Oh well, I guess everyone has to make as much as they can in this economy.
“The model number (NIUHC60D – emphasis on first 2 letters)…”
The first two letters are from the product’s brand, Nimar in this case. I’ve asked the web guys to check what camera this is designed for.

@ TheJBJ “A side note, Don’t shop at B&H. Their prices went up the exact amount of the Canon rebates the day they came out.”
This is completely incorrect and has been discussed TO DEATH in several forums including dpreview, fredmiranda and POTN. Several legit retailers were obliged by market conditions to raise prices on several Canon lenses some of which are included in the current rebate promo and some of which are not. Recently several additional retailers have also raised prices on the same group of lenses.
The suggestion B&H did something ethically questionable is ludicrous and contemptible.

i actually just got an email from B&H because i asked about this to see if it was for a typo or not, here is what they said about it:
“Hello , my name is Dan W:
Thank you for contacting the B&H E-Mail Sales Department.
It is a housing for the old old old D60, Canon’s 2nd DSLR camera. It is not for the replacement of the 50D (which will probably be called 60D but we do not have any beans to spill about it). Nor do we have a cat to let out of the bag.
In most cases when Canon announces a new camera, it is leaked on DP Review before stores are told anything.
Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.
Thank you, we appreciate your business.

I think this case made for Nikon-D60,you can see the red line on the right handgrip as all digital Nikon’s have..or maybe it’s for old Canon d60..
