Patent: Pop up viewfinder to allow for larger rear LCD displays

Patent: Pop up viewfinder to allow for larger rear LCD displays

By Canon Rumors | April 2, 2020 | Canon Patents

Northlight has uncovered a patent showing a pop-up viewfinder for PowerShot cameras, which also includes an eye-detection sensor.

It appears that this development will allow for a larger LCD on the rear of the camera.

While this looks like it would be for PowerShot cameras, perhaps a future very small form factor RF mount camera could use this sort of viewfinder as well.

Firmware: Canon EOS M6 Mark II 24p update

Firmware: Canon EOS M6 Mark II 24p update

By Canon Rumors | March 31, 2020 | Canon Firmware

It’s finally here, the 24p firmware update for the Canon EOS M6 Mark II, this update appears to have first appeared on the Canon UK site and will likely appear on others around the globe throughout the day.

Beyond the addition of 24p, there is also a couple of bugs fixed in this update.

Firmware Version 1.1.0 incorporates the following enhancement and fixes:

  1. The option to capture movies in the frame rate of 23.98p has been added.
  2. Fixes the phenomenon where the focus position of the lens returns to the home position if the camera powers off due to the “Auto Power Off” setting during Interval Timing shooting.
  3. Fixes the phenomenon in which, in rare cases, the camera may not autofocus at the edges of the image area.

Canon announcements will continue as previously planned

By Canon Rumors | March 30, 2020 | Canon DSLR Rumors

I have been told that Canon plans to continue their scheduled announcement dates for new products, including the Canon EOS R5, Canon EOS R6, and a new Cinema camera.

The EOS R5 and EOS R6 are scheduled to be announced in the next 8 weeks or so, and a new Cinema Camera should come in April.

Announcements for new lenses may get pushed back I have been told.

The downside is ship dates are a complete unknown at this time, which I think is an expected reality.

Canon confirms that the EOS R5 is the 5D series equivalent for mirrorless

By Canon Rumors | March 24, 2020 | Canon DSLR News

In an interview with Techradar, Canon’s product marketing specialist David Perry talks about the Canon EOS R5 and where it fits.

On the ergonomic decisions for the Canon EOS R5

“We’ve got the joystick on here, instead of the Multi-function bar. Everybody knows the multi-function bar on the EOS R got a mixed response – some people really got on with it, some people really couldn’t get on with it at all,” he said. “So maybe going with this is a safer bet – more people are used to the multi-controller.”

“Because this is a 5-series, more people at that kind of level will expect functions similar to what you get on a 5D.” he added.
