I was toying with getting one of their small sling type bags, for just quick one camera maybe one lens grab and go out the door type thing...such as this one:
Peak Designs Everyday Sling
Also, that travel tripod they had out from a kickstarter from awhile back...does anyone have one of those and could give feedback on how they like it one way or the other after having and using it awhile?
PD Aluminum Travel Tripod
I linked to the aluminum one for reference but would be interested in thoughts on the carbon fiber one too...does that sort of odd ball head on there work for you or not?
TIA,
cayenne
The every day sling doesn't look to bad. They may have made their strap a little bit less slippery. The messenger bag's strap was like a seat belt, very slippery.
I didn't get the tripod as I have a Gitzo Traveller which is a great tripod. That travel tripod is certainly compact. The Ball Head is like an inverse ball head. It's a different design.
All I can assure you is their gear is well made and have lovely touches. When it comes to bags I've gone back to standard bag makers who know their customers well. Less fancy but I find simple and effective.
I have the aluminium travel tripod and I like it very much. A big part of that is knowing how much it cost :) It works well for my use case, which is mostly macro. I used it in grasslands and bogs and it could take a 1dx3 + 180L just fine. It's small enough to carry in my backpack all the time and the arca-swiss compatible capture plate is a nice bonus. I can take e.g. an R5+100L and clip it from the tripod to the capture clip on my backpack strap.
The aluminium version feels very 'dense', people are surprised at how heavy it feels compared to its size. I would strongly prefer the weight of the carbon fiber version, but aluminium versions price was already more than I wanted to spend on a tripod.
It's a typical PD product: Well designed, well made and at a price point that makes me think 3 times if it's actually worth it before buying.
And for people thinking of donating to PD kickstarters: since you're investing instead of buying, there's no warranty on the rewards, since it's not a purchase. It's in every PD Kickstarter FAQ, but people still think kickstarters are a cool way to pre-order things and expect it to work like a regular store.
Unfortunately the PD travel tripod is 30% more expensive in Thailand and the reduction in price is only 3% as opposed to 10%
Will just have to lug the series 5 till I get back to SG
