Well, the hits keep on coming during the current economic fun. We already know that Canon USA will be increasing prices by 7-8% on their entire line-up of cameras and lenses. There may also be some inventory issues in the near-term.

We have been told that a planned future new gear presentation scheduled for the 2nd week in May has been delayed and has yet to be rescheduled.

In case you didn’t know. For MOST major new camera announcements, Canon will show-off what’s coming about 2 weeks ahead of the scheduled announcement. The EOS R5 Mark II was the day before, so that was a bit of an outlier and super annoying!

Canon EOS R6 Mark III

We have reported that Canon was scheduled to have new gear announcements in late May, 2025. We expected to see new lenses as well as at least one new camera body. The signs have been pointing to the EOS R6 Mark III, but it’s also possible that the follow-up to the EOS 7 and/or the EOS R10 was scheduled for May.

Canon EOS R7 Mark II & EOS R10 Mark II

Both the EOS R7 and EOS R10 were scheduled to have significant price drops in the United States on May 1, but those price drops have now been cancelled. We are hearing the price drops are still going to happen in the UK and Europe. Though, that could still change in the next couple of weeks.

Historically, significant price drops on camera bodies are usually a sign of new iterations of cameras will be announced in the not-too-distant future. Not always, but it’s generally the natural order of things.

I think we can all agree that what’s going on right now is difficult for a business to navigate, and Canon Inc and Canon USA may not have a definitive plan on how to deal with the uncertainty. Dealers that we have talked too feel the same way, they don’t really know what’s going to happen over the next weeks and months.

Canon Mirrorless Cameras Coming in 2025

  • Canon EOS R6 Mark III
  • Canon EOS R7 Mark II (Possible V Version)
  • Canon EOS R10 Mark II

The announcements in late May were also to include a lens or two, but we don’t know what lenses are coming next.

Clarity is Coming

I think once the price increases are implemented in the USA and possibly elsewhere, there will be some clarity for dealers on how things are going to go.

We do expect Canon will do whatever they can to get new products out ahead of Q4. Canon likes to sell lots of things during the holiday season.

  1. We are discovering at the moment that we don’t know how to pay the importer of record these tariffs.

Normally any duties etc are known in advance and the supplier quote validity of say 2 weeks is sufficient for the supplier to fix their prices and deliver but if they don’t know the % and when it applies from then by the time they get our order there could be additional costs hitting their (and our) budgets. A real mess with suppliers not actually wanting to quote without a separate blanket order for possible tariffs :-(

Trump is negotiating with Japan because their holdings of US bonds are so significant that they don’t even need to talk about the elephant in the room. If Japan gets concessions then all countries will expect them. If nothing then the financial nuclear lever is always there for them to use
  2. I suppose, Canon is doing that just for me.
Because in the past I said a R6m3 is too early in 2025, and I predicted that one in late 2025 or 2026 the earliest. :ROFLMAO:

Of course not funny for those, that are eagerly waiting for new HW
  3. In addition to the direct costs of tariffs, USA consumer confidence is sharply down. The result will most likely be that fewer people are interested in buying new cameras.
Agreed. At this stage, I am not looking for new cameras until 2028 and am going to limit myself to 1-2 lens(es) / yr.

My pre-tariff 20/1.4 will hopefully show up in 1.5 weeks. Nothing else in the lineup is currently interesting to me, but if something desirable comes out, I’ll order it.

I hadn’t planned to buy a new camera, but I’m really liking the Powershot V1.
  5. If anyone wants to allocate their unused budget, I could go for an RF 1200mm right about now :)

Would be curious to to know why you picked the 20 mm vs. the 24 mm? What is / are your application(s)? I realize that 20 m is about 10 degrees greater than 24 mm.

Timing. I already have the 24/1.4 VCM. 20mm is noticeably wider in my experience, and also means an extra 4 trail-free seconds for stars. I'll probably keep both and see which gets more use. The bigger question for me is do I really need to also keep the RF 24/1.8 STM?

    So sad, so sad...
I was a few minutes late. When I happily pressed "enter", the message said "all sold".

imho you will not use 24mm anymore once you have 20mm.

Don't be sad. You can use that money for an Aston Martin Valkyrie's tire or something!
