  1. I like the small size, but without Raw, it’s useless. Those noise reduced JPEG’s won’t cut it.

  2. It’s not like they are naming them differently by accident. What would Canon stand to gain from standardising the names? They use different names for a reason. This is a mass-market segment. If a different name would appeal more in a different culture, then they’ll use a different name. Perhaps they figured out that it will increase sales by 0.37% and they think it’s worth it.

    This is also a segment where regional price differentials combined with sales volumes would encourage a grey market. It is much harder to buy a batch of cameras cheaply in the USA and then sell them in Europe for a bigger profit if the product name looks wrong. They can price-gouge more readily if they can keep out the grey-marketeers.
