Canon has released firmware v1.5.1 for the Canon EOS R3. It's a relatively minor firmware, but does address named and unnamed bugs.

  1. Camera Remote Application It is now possible to register the focus position in the preset function of the CR-A100. When used with the CR-S700R robotic camera system, it makes it easier for the photographer to focus on the intended subject distance and shoot.
  2. It is now possible to erase only voice memos attached to images. In addition, it is now possible to add and add voice memos to protected images.
  3. Enhanced security when sending captured images via FTPS transfer.
  4. If you press the “Exposure Compensation/Aperture Value Setting Button” while looking through the viewfinder, you can check the time in the viewfinder.
  5. Fixed a phenomenon in which the camera operation was rarely effective after touch operation, and [BUSY] was displayed even when the camera was operated.
  6. <Fixed a phenomenon in which the viewfinder and monitor screen were displayed and shooting was not possible in rare cases due to the operation of the AF-ON> button operation and the timing of the viewfinder on sensor.
  7. Fixed minor bugs.

  1. I hope this firmware revisions fixes the issue that I was having with both R3 bodies in Alaska. On average of once a day the body would lock up and display BUSY. The only way to fix the issue was to shutdown and physically remove the battery from the camera. Not a complete failure, but definitely annoying to say the least.

  2. Well this is disappointing!!! Where’s the precapture that the lower cameras have. Seriously disappointed!
    CANON, not impressed!
Same here what the hell, R3 is a forgotten camera.

  3. Went to a show in London a few months ago and when I was on the Canon stand was bemoaning the fact that newer cameras have options that I would expect on my R3 (pre-capture was one) and I asked when they thought firmware might be released to make them available. The answer I got was that they wouldn't be doing so as it was a Pro camera; and Pro's didn't need them as they always just "get the shot". Now I'm not a Pro, so not in a position to argue, but I would have thought that a Pro would want any tools available to ensure the best possible chance to "get the shot". Suspect the guy I was talking to didn't have a clue, I doubt it's Canon policy, but wasn't happy with the response.

He is clueless, and I too hope it‘s not Canon’s policy.
