It's more than just a sale. It's a 32% discount off the regular price for the lens + dock. That is a "fire sale" discount in Sigmaland.

Or maybe they've gotten wind of what Canon is putting into all their "unimpressive" and "marginal" "cosmetic" lens updates to make them work at full capability of an impending new body release and Sigma wants to unload as much inventory now before their lens is rendered "second tier" due to some hardware limitation (just as the recently replaced Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II or EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS wil be).

Its likely a correction to a over supply of inventory. August is a really difficult month for sales of photo gear, if sales fall way short, a big sale will take care of that. If I didn't already have the Canon 100-400, I'd have been interested.
