The 500 F4L IS is a great lens, you will not regret upgrading.

Or just get the 24 1.4L II - not ultrawide on 7D but the perfect tool for indoor low light shots without using a flash.

Service and availability of spare parts could be one reason not not go for the 200 1.8L, lack of IS another. You should think carefully if you really need the F2.0 at 200mm, otherwise you might be better off with the 300 F2.8L IS II + 70-200 F2.8L IS II. However, although I do certainly not...

I would also consider $1,200 to be too cheap to be true for a decent copy. However, I can highly recommend the Mark 2, IQ, sharpness, bokeh are amazing and it's comparably light, can carry it around all day with ease. I am mainly using it for shooting candid portraits while exploring a city...

Definitely the Mark II. Had the chance to compare pics taken with the IS MkI at the same location at the same time with those I had taken with the IS Mk II. Both on 7D and the IQ difference was very visible...
