What will Canon bring to the table with the EOS R1?

Full disclosure: I'm mostly a Sony shooter, but still dabble in the Canon world. You can't compare anything full frame to a medium format camera. It's like comparing an APS-C body to full frame. There's inherent differences in the sensor size and the images it can generate as well as pixel...

Infrared with a Canon EOS R5?

The best way (hands down) to infrared is by getting your camera modified. There's no two ways about it. In theory, you can simply use an infrared filter (like a Hoya R72) over your lens, and do a long exposure image, and you'll somewhat get an infrared image like is classically seen. Obviously...

Question on Rokinon MF 14mm RF lens

I purchased a used lens and the dial just in front of the aperture control (where it has the triangle to mark what aperture number is set) spins freely. The aperture control works and clicks in place fine, but obviously since the indicator dial spins freely, it's difficult to know exactly what...

Question on potential black friday deals for Canon EOS R

I read the note on the Ra, but I don't think it would work for my infrared purposes, as I go full spectrum. As I understood the press notice, it feels like the Ra would not be full spectrum, but closer to a 665nm mod.

Question on potential black friday deals for Canon EOS R

Do you think I'd find one for less than $1500usd? I found a gray market deal for about that. I'm going to be modifying this into an infrared camera immediately anyways, so the warranty on this is getting voided pretty quickly

Question on potential black friday deals for Canon EOS R

Hello all, I'm in the market for an EOS R, and while obviously none of the BF deals ave been released, I was wondering if anyone would care to take a guess as to typical discount/deals would be. I'm sure bundles will be the name of the game. I'm really only interested in the body and EOS-RF...

Samyang to release an AF 14mm f/2.8 for the RF mount

Is this the same lens that was announced? This was a review from August. He must have had a preview copy, as I was under the impression this lens was already out... *Edit: Nevermind, it's clearly different.

Question on drop in filters for EOS R adapter

I do a lot of full spectrum infrared photography, which requires various filters to be used to get the desired images. I'm thinking very heavily about getting an EOS R as my next IR camera (as Sony, who I'm typically very happy with, have made things rather difficult for us IR users on their...

Is a dedicated astrophotography EOS R coming in 2019? [CR1]

Just remember, many of the astro people who would use would not even need a lens. Most of these astro people will be putting their cameras directly to their telescopes with an adapter, so no lens needed. The only folks who would need lenses are those doing astro style landscapes, where this...

Last minute eclipse advice: Aperture priority vs Manual for AEB

So I've been doing my test shooting for my telephoto closeups. I did some testing with autoexposure bracketing, going -3/+3 using 7 shots in manual mode. I'm doing high speed continuous on the 70D, so it goes pretty quickly. I also did a test run with using aperture priority mode. Again...

    Eclipse photo prep question/critique

So I've been doing some solar testing with my camera rig for the eclipse. Here's what I'm using: Canon 70D Canon 1.4x tele Canon 100-400 ISII formatt hitech firecrest filter system with Lee solar eclipse 100mm x 100mm filter Manfrotto 410 geared head a mefoto tripod (for now) I'm using a custom...

Use of solar eclipse filter once the eclipse is done

When you tried focusing manually, did you zoom in on the sun in the screen? Usually the screens have a 10x or so zoom feature on the screen (I know my 6D does), so you should be able to get a decent enough focus there.

Use of solar eclipse filter once the eclipse is done

So I purchased a Lee solar eclipse filter (it's like a 16 or 18 stop), and I was just thinking of after the eclipse. I spent $150 bucks on this filter, and the thought of getting some use out of it aside from waiting another 6 or so years for the next eclipse became very appealing to me. In...

Decent tripod for a heavy head and camera

I only rented the legs. I have a manfrotto 410 head that I'll be putting on it, so unless the legs are crap, I should be fine. Either way, they didn't have much selection at this point and time.

Decent tripod for a heavy head and camera

Thanks everyone. I ended up renting an Induro from lens rentals. I figured at this point, $76 for a 2 day roadtrip was a smarter investment than spending 200 bucks on a tripod that I may or may not like in the future. I'll research the matter further around Christmastime perhaps ;-)

Decent tripod for a heavy head and camera

So I need to get a new tripod. I'll be taking it up for the eclipse, so I'd like to get it asap. It needs to (easily) support a Manfretto 410 head, and a Canon 100-400 ii lens, with a Canon 70d. This has been a bit of an unforseen purchase for me, so I'd like to keep it around 200 dollars us...

    Eclipse lens/teleconvertor question

Alright, I got my lensrental order for the 100-400, as well as the tele completed, so I should have those at least. B&H has the 77mm eclipse filter for the 100-400, but I can't order it till tomorrow night due to a religious holiday they have. If I'm just doing landscapes, I shouldn't need a...

    Eclipse lens/teleconvertor question

So I'm going to make the hike up to catch the totality for the eclipse, and I want to rent a better zoom lens for the event. I've got a Canon M3 (with the EF adapter), and a 6D. The plan I thought of was to use one camera (with the zoom lens and teleconvertor) to photograph the eclipse itself...

    filter holder question

I'm looking at buying a specific type of filter, and now need a filter holder. This will be the type where you slide the square filters into place. I'm trying to stick with the 100mm filter size (both for cost and availability), but all the 100mm filter holders I've seen require you to thread a...

Help me blow my money on lenses!

That's right folks...I'd like to spend money that I don't have. I have a 6D and I'm looking to get a nice range of lenses to cover my bases. I've currently got the 24-105L f/4 lens, a nifty fifty (50mm 1.8), and a Rokinon 14mm f/2.8. I'd like to get (or at least plan out) a lens purchase that...
