Three new stacked sensor cameras coming from Canon [CR2]

I’m sure you didn’t mean mirror slap. The mechanical shutter on the R7 is horrible. I use electronic shutter almost exclusively and set the volume low, just enough to give me some aural feedback. Given that it has almost 50% more resolution than the 7DII, it’s impressive that there is no loss...

Three new stacked sensor cameras coming from Canon [CR2]

I've been on this forum for many years following Canon's camera development. With every new feature or technology we get people who claim that this feature or that one is too costly to be implemented in the next lower tier body. And yet, Canon consistently does trickle down the features and...

Three new stacked sensor cameras coming from Canon [CR2]

Canon has been experimenting and refining the top end crop sensor slot for nearly 15 years and seems to now have settled on a top model that comes close, but still falls below the 5 series in features. While many users are nostalgic for the "mini 1D" feature set of the 7DII, I'm not optimistic...

Article on F-Stoppers; R5 falling apart?

I did not intend to reopen the Great Freeze Debate. I’ve participated in all the discussions here as well as an R3 discussion on an official Canon forum. Some of the “solutions” seemed to help, but not consistently. Others were more magical thinking. As I said, Canon seems to be working its...

Article on F-Stoppers; R5 falling apart?

My wife and I have had six R series cameras – the original R, the R3, two R5s and now two R7s. Only the original R never had a freeze issue. All of the others have frozen at various times. I'll share my highly personal opinion. 1) People who post on this forum that "they" have never had a...

Canon announces the U100 remote control PTZ system for EOS R cameras.

I could be mistaken, but I seem to recall Canon offering a similar contraption a few years back. Maybe designed for broadcast of sports, to be mounted in locations where a photographer can’t easily get to.

What do people want to see in the Canon EOS R1? PetaPixel gives their thoughts

No thanks. I don’t want a camera that bricks if a file is corrupted. I don’t want to try and maintain folders and files from the back of the camera. I don’t want a TB of files on my camera to sift through. I don’t want to be limited to a single TB of files if I’m on an extended trip or...

Canon RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM update [CR2]

Of course with birds you often have to take what you can get. But I’m always surprised how just slight changes in position can make a huge difference when composing a picture.

Canon RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM update [CR2]

I Yeah, I’ve never been a fan of bokeh. It always reminds me of the 19th century soft-focus photographers. I’m more of an f64 Group photographer. I like straight photography with no sentimental gimmicks. But I think that learning how to see the whole scene and avoid distracting elements is...

Canon RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM update [CR2]

Okay I know I’ve said way too much on this subject but I want to add one more thought on the subject of distracting backgrounds. There is an old saying among photographers that I just made up: “Amateurs look at the subject. Pros look at the background.” Learning to look at the background has...

Canon RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM update [CR2]

Go to the Audubon top 100 award winners. You will see lots of prize winners with great separation shot with Canon 100-400, Canon 100-500, and Sigma 150-600 6.3. Of course there are also many shot with long fast primes as well, but the common denominator is the skill of the photographers not the...

Canon RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM update [CR2]

I absolutely agree with this. A 500 DO to replace the 400 DO that is a stop faster than the 100-500 zoom would be a tempting lens and I think it actually has a chance of appearing at some point. (Basing that on the fact that Canon found room in its lineup for four 400mm EF lenses and DO adds an...

Canon RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM update [CR2]

Thanks neuro for taking the time to test this out. Of course I’m pretty sure we both knew what the reaction would be, as it was never about a reasoned discussion of the relative benefits of a fraction of an f stop. This was the standard “I want ‘x’ and Canon isn’t making it, so I’m mad and...

Canon RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM update [CR2]

I guess you can feel any way you want. I feel that an $8,000 lens is unlikely to ever be “gobbled up.”

Canon RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM update [CR2]

I’d love to see some comparison shots of 500mm at f5.6 vs f7.1. Edit: like @neuroanatomist, I’m not convinced either.

Multiple RAW image resolutions coming to the Canon EOS R5 Mark II?

I should clarify. I would have no problem with less resolution as an added option. I just want to make sure that the don’t compromise full raw and c raw. Same with video. I don’t want to have less of a stills camera for the sake of video and that would include limiting the resolution.

Canon RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM update [CR2]

I’ll respond in a way that I hope is a bit more respectful. Canon makes a sub-4k 500mm lens that is less than a stop slower than your dream lens. With today’s sensors and software, the difference in f-stops is not that significant. The Canon lens is as sharp as a prime, costs way less than your...

Multiple RAW image resolutions coming to the Canon EOS R5 Mark II?

I’m not interested in less resolution. Give me 60mp and CRAW and I’m happy. If you don’t want or need 60mp then buy an R6. Don’t compromise stills performance for video. Buy the R5 II Cinema model if video is your priority. I’d rather Canon forgo gimmicky resolution and video tricks and just...

Canon RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM update [CR2]

Exactly. It’s splitting hairs, but this is why I consider this an expensive replacement for the 500 f4 prime, not the 200-400 w/ teleconverter.
