5D3 slow startup time with CF card

Dear all!

I experience a slow startup time (boot time, wakeup from sleep) when using a CF card in my 5D3, firmware 1.2.3

I measured boot time of the camera from swithing the main dial until the AF symbol appears in the viewfinder
  • without memory cards to be <0,5 seconds
  • with SD card only to be ~0,7 seconds
  • with CF card only to be ~1,9 seconds
  • with CF+SD cards to be ~1,9 seconds, same as with CF only
I use
  • SD: a SanDisk Extreme 45MB/s class 10, 32GB
  • CF: a Kingston ultimate 600x, 32GB, UDMA 6 from 2010. When I use an older and slower card, Kingston elite pro, 32GB, 133x, bootup times are slightly longer, 2,3 secs.
Both cards have just been formatted in camera.

Anybody knows, what is going on? Are the CF cards too old and slow? sequential read speed in a USB 3 card reader is high, however, ~100MB/sec.

Merry Christmas,
Sulla

Just installed Magic Lantern to the CF card, and benchmarked the cards. Magic Lantern tells me, the 5D3 achieves:
  • CF: write at 81 MB/s, read at 88 MB/s
  • SD: write at 21 MB/s, read at 22 MB/s
So, the CF is the faster card by far. Yet it takes the camera much longer to boot when a CF card (again, without Magic Lantern) is inserted than when an SD card is inserted. Confused... Very confused...
