bummer
they keep releasing them later and later each time
first you could get them in time for entire fall sports, then in time for fall foliage, then in time for fall sports playoffs, now....

OTOH make sit less tempting jump in at release price and just wait until spring at this point and get some savings.

(yeah yeah this depends where you live of course, although tons of population lives in areas where this is the case, if certainly plenty where this is not)

5D3 is just somehow going to be a HUGE anticlimax. Just have an inkling.

maybe they gave the body such an under spec again and then got wind of some awesome Nikon specs (24-28MP, 6-7fps, top of the line AF, GPS, full-sensor scaled video with advanced controls compact D700-like body? no i have no idea of the specs, just making up stuff) and got got too embarrassed to release their new 5D2 with 32MP, 4fps, 15pt (3 x-type) slow AF, no advanced AF or video controls, no GPS, bare bones no nothing body, heh and have to retool up a new body for the sensor and release it next year instead

hopefully not, you'd have to think Canon would be smart enough to not do what you fear (5D3 a little 20D to 40D like upgrade)

So, Nikon will give us one, maybe two FF dSLRs, with 'big megapixels.' Canon will give us big megapixels, too, but they'll be crammed into a sensor the size of a pinhead, so they can market a super-mega-ultrazoom, say 50x, without needing a lens the size of, well, a cannon. Where's the 1DsIV love?

How sure are we about the Nikon announcements. It looks like it is also mainly down to speculation as to what Nikon will announce on the 24th. The main consensus seems to be that their mirrorless system will be announced - which will still be a big threat to Canon.
Whether or not Nikon will announce more DSLRs still seems to be a matter of speculation. If they do, that may force Canon's hand. So, I guess if Nikon do announce a new DSLR (or two) it is good for everyone, as Canon would have to follow soon after.
