Save a lot

I’ve been told by a couple of people that the Canon EOS 5D Mark II will see a big price drop this coming week in the USA, we should see it in other countries as well. We’re told the new price will be $1699 USD for the body until they’re all gone, which won’t take too long I don’t think.

Keep an eye here and we’ll post when the new price takes effect.

Why are we so interested in teh 6D again when mk2 prices are this good?

A new 5D II for $1,699 is a steal, and the 5D III should be down to $3,000 most everywhere in the next couple of months. If you search daily, (or check back here and at the digital picture) they notify you of price drops. Numerous times the 5D III has sold for $3,000, and that fire sale adorama had on their ebay store saw them go for $2,749 (almost made me buy).

I just sold my refurb 5D Mark II for $1750 a week ago. It only had 735 actuations, over 300 of them put on it the weekend before. I needed money for my 5D Mark III, and keep enough cash on hand to grab a deal on craigslist for a "L" lens if a bargain pops up.
$1699 seems like a deal. The original 5D was blown out for about that price in a few days, then those who held back new ones were able to get more. With the 600D coming out, that might not be the case.

Sounds like I sold mine at just about the right time. I got £900 (around $1400) for it from an aquaintance about a month ago, I probably could have got more on eBay (£1100 if I was really lucky), but would have paid well over £100 in seller's fees with more hassle. There would be no chance of getting that much with the rumoured price drops or even now that the 6D has been announced.

Just preordered the EOS 6D today. As I like to use it for many years and knowing myself it will be (for me) the better investment even if it is now severel hundred dollars more expensive. I save over time :)

Camera Lenses are an investment (at least ones that retain their value over time), whereas DSLR bodies ought to be thought of a 'Sunk Cost' that need to be amortized over 4 years (the product life cycle). So a $2k camera body should be depreciated by roughly $500/year or roughly $10/week. Thus reflecting a better approximation of the true cost of camera ownership.

This will make the decision between getting the 6D and the 5Dmkii much more difficult. Do you think the 6D is worth the extra hundreds of dollars?
For me, it may depend on how good the 6D's AF really is and how much better the IQ is (or is not). The problem is, that data will not be out before all the 5Ds sell out! Decisions, decisions...

Call me when the 5D3 drops. Love the camera, just don't have $3,400 for it. How about $3,000.

I see there are some at Ebay and it says No grey market, 1 Year USA Warranty...

I've never bought from them, but it seems fine. Not sure if there's something hidden in the offer.
It looks good. The only down side for me is that they are in NY. I am in NY so that means over 8% tax. I need to find and out of state retailer. Amazon charges tax in NY too. I believe if I caught that Beach Camera deal they would have been tax free.

Typical! I just bought one not long ago. Got mine in Japan, it's actually gone slightly up in price on amazon.jp but over the last few month it's been hovering around ¥150,000 sounds a lot in dollors (¥1899) but yen to dollor rate is inflated so its more like $1750 in my opinion. Though I wish I could buy in $s, I'd save a packet! :-\

Having been on the fence for a while I'm wondering if it would be worth upgrading to a FF by getting a 5D2 now when the prices drop or use what I have for now (50D) and instead invest in quality lenses, then buy a 5D3 when prices finally become more reasonable (I suppose in a year or so)?

I've read a lot about what some call outdated AF, and also some flash sync issues (not sure what the specifics are) with the 5D2.

This is an awesome camera. If you don't have the coin for a 5DmkIII, or don't need those features, this is by far your best bet. Especially when you compare it to the 6D that it's replacing.

Canon has failed on an amazing level by coming out with the 6D. Why not just keep the 5DmkII out, sell it for the same price, and label it a 'classic' or 'vintage' digital camera? I think there's a market for that.
