It's so interesting to see the different editing choices that people use and how a focal length can be successfully used to fulfill the creative vision of people in so many different ways. Anyway, I captured this image a couple of weekends ago when we had some drizzly weather.

EOS 5D Mark-III
EF 100mm f/2.8 macro (non-L)
Exposure settings: 1/250s at f/5.6, ISO 1600

"Cheeky fly"

I was quite chuffed with myself having shot a series of images of this mantis stalking and grabbing a stink bug. When I reviewed the images I was astonished by a small fly that quite happily snuck in for a quick snack right under the jaws of the feeding mantis. The fly there for at least 6 second because I see it in four successive images which were shot 2-3 seconds apart. Needless to say, if I was that size I wouldn't be anywhere near those jaws.

EOS 5D Mark-III, EF 100mm f/2.8 macro USM, Speedlite 600EX-RT
Camera settings: 1/200s at f/14, ISO 800
Flash: ETTL +0.3Ev, shaped with Large Rogue Flashbender

Wow! Just "wow"! Great moment! Great pic!

Pure interest:
Was it taken "in the wild" or was the mantis sitting in a terrarium?
It was in my backyard in among some spinach and rocket plants.
