A little info on this masterpiece of cheap kit lens. First, it's a kit lens. From the Film Era. It was made for an APS film camera. But there was no such thing as a crop lens at the time, and this lens is Full Frame. You could buy it separately, you did not have to buy it as a kit.
Fourteen years ago, I was an a film shooter avid to reach a wider angle of view and without resources to buy the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L, 16-35 f/2.8L, 20-35mm f/2.8L or even the 20-35mm f/3.5-4.5, then I discovered that although the Canon EF 22-55mm f/4-5.6 had been designed for the APS cameras, I could use it with a 35mm camera. I looked for one for over a year and when I bought it, it was a real joy. I could make images of large buildings and interiors. It was one of the lenses which made me love photography. I used mine from 2004 (with film cameras) to 2008 (when I bough the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5). It was a great lens for me.
