Sure took long enough. Announced, August 2010. I hear Europe first. Canada next and then the US. I would imagine very, very limited supply for quite sometime. These better be spectacular given the wait and price - 500mm II at $10.5k and the 600mm II at $13k.

Bah! Only f/4? That's waaaay too slow. I'd pay $13k for a 600 f/1.4, but not for a 600 f/4....

I just noticed that if I preorder the 600/4 II ($12,999) I can bundle it with Lightroom 4 and save $50. Now that is one killer deal...

But you have to get dedicated transportation too. Just saw a guy at the local zoo with a study tripod and an extremely long tele lens, he was using a trolley because you cannot lift this exquipment all at once ...

I guess he was using full frame and didn't like teleconverters, because what he was shooting was about 5-10m away. But impressive look all the same, maybe just a little overkill for the occasion.

Absolutely. We all should just keep complaining about these lenses, and when Canon's CEO reads this forum they'll adjust the price accordingly. Same with the 5d3. Well, not yet really, but we'll see

Oh, it's no problem. Well, a bit of an engineering challenge, but that's all.

It's only when you get to a 600 f/1.2 that the gravitational field is enough to form a black hole -- and, even then, only with a gripped 5-series or a 1-series.
