Those are amazing shots. Where did you shoot them? And if you don't mind what kind of tripod do you use?

Hey

The coyote was found in Annan, Ontario, Canada. About 20 minutes from Owen Sound, Ontario.

The first shot was hand held, the 2nd was from the back of a minivan on a Gitzo 3541LS & Wimberley Type II.

Re: Canon EF 800 f/5.6L IS

Both pictures are very nice and what I especially like about the second one is that it is clearly a very long distance shot, however the DoF is still quite shallow. Really amazing what the 800mm can do here.

Do you have any idea about the distance or could maybe also provide the EXIF for this one ?

i would not say these shots are "amazing" or "awesome"... but maybe thats an american thing, to exaggerate everything.

"It's awesome, sir". "What, like a hotdog?"

meanwhile, how far away were these shots? (and how close would you want to get?)

Black-crowned Night Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax) by alabang, on Flickr

The Black-crowned Night Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax) commonly abbreviated to just Night Heron in Eurasia, is a medium-sized heron found throughout a large part of the world, except in the coldest regions and Australasia (where replaced by the closely related Rufous Night Heron, with which it has hybridized in the area of contact).

Adults are approximately 64 cm long and weigh 800 g. They have a black crown and back with the remainder of the body white or grey, red eyes, and short yellow legs. Young birds are brown, flecked with white and grey. These are short-necked and stout herons.

I'm having so much fun with this lens. Not sure how I got along without it. Sold my car to buy it and no remorse!

Brilliant shot, I think it was well worth selling your car for the lens. Walking keeps you healthy and unless it was a Prius you've also reduced your carbon footprint...so many good things came out of getting the lens.

I digress, seriously love the shot. With images of this quality I'm sure you'll make enough money back from sales to get another car anyway.

The Purple Swamphen (Porphyrio porphyrio), also known as the African Purple Swamphen, Purple Moorhen, Purple Gallinule, Pūkeko or Purple Coot, is a large bird in the family Rallidae (rails). From its name in French, talève sultane, it is also known as the Sultana Bird. This chicken-sized bird, with its huge feet, bright plumage and red bill and frontal shield is easily-recognisable in its native range. It should not be confused with the American Purple Gallinule, Porphyrio martinica.

Spangled Drongo (Dicrurus bracteatus) by alabang, on Flickr

The Spangled Drongo (Dicrurus bracteatus) is a bird of the family Dicruridae.

The Spangled Drongo is the only Drongo to be found in Australia. "Drongo" is Australian slang for "idiot", possibly referring to the bird's uninhibited and sometimes comical behaviour as it swoops and perches in search of insects, small birds and occasionally, small skinks.
