Canon PowerShot G9 X Mark II to be Announced ahead of CES 2017

Canon will announce the successor to the PowerShot G9 X sometime before CES in January. CES runs from January 5 until January 8 in Las Vegas, Nevada.</p>
<p>We expect to see the PowerShot G9 X Mark II announced alongside new EOS Rebel cameras and the PowerShot SX70 HS.</p>
<p>According to the NokiS___a, the PowerShot G9 X Mark II will come in black and silver and be wifi enabled.</p>

Who cares about G9X.
SX70HS is what I want to know about. Specially what AF improvement does it bring. When will Canon bring DPAF to that line. Right now Panasonic is the best in town with Depth From Defocus. Sony, Canon etc have even worse AF than Panasonic.

I've almost bought the v1, can't pass the v2 for sure.

G9 X is currently the largest camera that will comfortably fit in a pants pocket. The G7 is too large as is anything bigger. Combined with the relatively large sensor for pocketable cameras, the G9X I is a great camera. I'm highly likely to pick up a replacement if it gets faster, smaller, more FPS, DPAF, or better high ISO performance.

The powershots have often sony sensors.
So i don't see DPAF coming to this line anytime soon.
The DPAF production costs are an issue too (look at the 80D/M5 body prices)

The digic 7 isn't already an improvement on AF side? I'll test a G7X mkII soon.

For me, I'd be willing to pay more than the m5 price if I could get an m5 the size of a G7X. Ultimately I'm fine with paying more for a smaller size. Just because there are small, cheap point and shoots doesn't mean there shouldn't be high end point and shoots.

Agree - I am more interested in a compact with a hotshoe. If the G7X II is anything to go by, it will be worth waiting for the G5X II. What is good is that the G7X and G9X will now both be onto mkII - hopefully that means the G5X won't be far behind.

same actually .. I liked the original M / M2 size and layout .. a tilt screen and the evf attachment would be nice addons to that form factor through.

physics does. want a smaller lens profile - make it slower and less zoom range.

I feel for some people it's really hard. "I want a smart phone size camera with an 11-1200 f/0.95 zoom lens. A medium format sensor is a must".
