Canon introduced their technology before Nikon so there was no need for their marketing people to avoid the use of Fresnel.

There are other reasons why they might avoid the term. Not that it bothers me, but it might be associated with cheap plastic gimmicks.

Nonetheless, the physical evidence shows no other explanation than that this is in fact a fresnel and not really diffraction optics.

I think the tech is great by the way.
