With the zoom feature of the 600d I was talking to a friend of mine about a cheap lens to be used as a video lens.

It ocurred to us the Samyang 14mm F2.8, with the zoom feature it becomes a 24-240mm F2.8 lens (don't know if the quality is up there).

Yes we wouldn't get the depth of field of a 240mm F2.8, sometimes that's not needed, specially in video where the focus subject might change rapidly.

So it got me thinking, Canon could launch a 15mm F2.8 IS, the shorter fov would allow for a smaller, higher quality, cheaper lens.

What you think about this idea?

Hmm ...

I'd love a prime 15mm, but I'm afraid by the time IS is added, Canon will find a way to create a lens priced too high. I'd love a faster, non-IS prime, but I know the IS is great for shooting video.

I'd like the lens, but I'm afraid Canon wouldn't position it to my liking in the price/features/quality triangle.

$.02

It would only be 2/3rds of stop faster than the 15-85mm, but being a prime, distortion and quality could be improved.

Would you use it as a video lens?
